Tote and scissor/cosmetic bag

Post by calicopuzzle » Mon Sep 29, 2008 4:52 am

Here is a picture of my cosmetic bag. I made it after the pattern that Inka sent to me. This will be just right to fit into my tote that I made out of the same fabric. I will use it for my scissors and other sewing items. There is a picture of my tote bag that are made out of the same fabric also.

Another picture is a little more complicated to explain. It was a rainy day, and DH was out in his shop...trying to fix a pair of scissors for me. They wouldn't close right. Then he said he got carried away with what he was doing and decided to try to make a new set of handles for it out of wood. He said it was just a challenge......aren't they neat!! The scissors still doesn't work that well, but I think I have the only pair of hand made wooden handled scissors in the country....lol!

Awesome bags and thescissors are beautiful too. Too bad they don't work better. Maybe he can put the handles on a pair that works. They sure are unique. A creative couple !!

Very very nice! Love the cosmetic bag pattern with the tulip. Colors are perfect. I like the large pocket on the outside of your bag also. I'm going to do one of those when I make a bag for myself.

Your DH did a great job on those handles!!!

WOW! How gorgeous! And what a talented DH you have. Love your scissors. Your Tote, cosmetic/notions bag combo really is nice. You will be so envied wherever you carry them. Bring out the scissors and girl you better hang on. Maybe attach them to a ribbon and wear them around your neck? Tell DH he did great!

Calico, your cosmetic bag is just beautiful! I love the purple tulip matching the fabric print! You are very inventive! I am so glad you liked this shape and have tried it!I am pretty sure you will be happy with the form and size of this bag - it is just right for the scissors and other sewing junk. And it opens comfortably without the zipper limitating you to dig among your stuff ... And I admire your DH for his ability to do magic with wood - he seems to be able to make anything of it!

Thanks for the nice compliments!! I told DH that I would give him a pair of working Fiskars scissors if he would be willing to do the project again....he just laughed. I think with guys, something like this is just a one-time project. lol

I like the curved cosmetic bag also, Inka. Thanks for the idea. I have an old plastic one that we take along when we travel for bathroom accessories and you are right....getting to the bottom of it is much simpler than a straight top on the bag.

The tote pattern is a variation of the free pattern on Marcus Brothers Textiles site.

I love the scissors and your bags. How do the scissors feel in your hand?
