Civiil war quilt

Post by patches4 » Sat Sep 13, 2008 11:49 am

Hi all

With all the bad weather lately i hope all are safe.

Somewhere in this forum someone started a block exchange or something dealing with a civil war quilt. I am trying to find that thread because it listed many different blocks by name and the person in charge said what colors she wanted incorporated. I thought this was posted in the last 12 months---but don't mind me I lose track of time easily

My son is getting his own place and has a spare bedroom he wants to decorate using his civil war things. I am at a loss as to what colors for SURE to use and I then recalled a thread where someone was putting this beauatiful sounding civil war quilt together. A list was done with a variety of block names and we were to sign up to do a block. I know at the time I looked into the different blocks and tried to imagine how beautiful it would be. If at all possble I was trying to find that thread and incorporate the blocks with cream, dark red, and blue colors to make for my son.

I just wanted to know what blocks were used and or what book can I purchase would give me an idea of authentic civil war blocks and then I would try to get reproduction fabric to accomplish this.

Any help is always appreciated.

Thanks ahead of time.

Barbara Brackman has several books out with Civil War quilt block patterns. You can also check and see if your state museum has any quilts from the Civil War era. Or a history of quilting book for the state.

Best Wishes.

I have Eleanor's Underground Railroad book. It is wonderful I made the wall hanging top, but I need to quilt it yet. I made the pattern Blue Moon of Kentucky for my son who is a Confederate re-enactor. It is made up of blues, tans, and browns. Two more good books of Civil War patterns are by Rosemary Youngs - The Civil War Diary Quilt, and The Civil War Love Letter Quilt. My favorite fabrics are Civil War reproduction fabrics. Sherry
