Pocket Tissue Cover Tutorial

Post by knitnoid »

Fabric needed
3 - 5 1/2" x 3 1/2" rectangles
2 - 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" squares

Image

Fold the two squares and two of the rectangles in half as shown. These will become the top of the cover.

Image

With the 3rd rectangle right side up, lay one of the folded squares on the end, with raw edges matching.

Image

Next, lay one of the rectangles along the edge, raw edges together.

Image

Lay the remainng folded square on the other end of the rectangle.

Image

Finally, lay the remaing folded rectangle on the 4th edge of the rectangle, tucking the end under the original square.

Image

Pin in place, then sew a 1/4" around the square.

Image

To keep the raw edges from ravelling, stitch a zig zag around the edge. This could also be done on the serger.

Image

Turn the cover right sides out and insert the tissue package.

This project MIGHT have taken me 15 minutes to complete, but that included looking for fabric and taking pictues after each step. Once the fabric is selected these should whip up in no time at all.

Thank you for the tutorial! I'll probably be making a few of these. Great way to use up scraps, too!

Too bad I am working this weekend...otherwise I could goof off and spend some time making one of these with an envelope opening at the narrow end. Another time, perhaps.

I haven't seen pocket packs of tissues with the slit opening in the stores in quite a while. The packs with the opening at the narrow end seem to stay in better shape longer, especially if the pack lives at the bottom of a tote bag for months on end and gets smooshed around a lot.

You know what I would like to find? A pattern for a glasses case, maybe one with two pockets to hold 2 pair...

Anyone have this and care to share?

CaroleJ, I've seen it recommended to fold over a potholder and sew along the bottom and side for a glasses case. I did it for my rotary cutter. I had a potholder I really didn't want to use for sentimental reasons, but this works perfect!

Neat tissue holders! I've made these in my embroidery machine many times, but I like your idea for using up fabric scraps and I'm sure it's quicker then loading up the design, the hoop, stabilizer, etc. on my machine. Thanks a lot!
