Applique
I am having trouble with my applique. Maybe someone can help me. I use the Seam A Seam 2. That is fine until I have to layer something. I do all my blanket stitches by hand. It is so thick that I break my needles. Does someone have a easier way? If so Help!!!

Re: Applique
Use starch! Spray your cut fabric piece heavy with starch and press in place.

Re: Applique
Or maybe use the Seam A Seam in just the very center of your pc so that you won't be stitching through it? Use just enough to hold it? I don't know, just trying to think of something that will help. Bet that is a royal pain!

When doing fairly large pieces, I back them with very light weight interfacing. It can be the fusible kind or not. I sew right sides together, clip curves, and cut a slit in the interfacing to turn. I have done the starch method , too.

Re: Applique
I'm just getting things ready to do my first applique. Kathy that is a great idea for a beginer like me. I think I will try that. What I am doing is round. I was trying to figure out how to fold in around it. This system seems like it might be easy. I off to pratice it.

Re: Applique
You can hold your applique' pieces in place with good ol' Formula 505 spray adhesive.
Would it work to put fusible in the center, then a dash of spray on the edges...? Might leave a ridge where the edge of the fusible is, though.

Re: Applique
I've been known to swipe a glue stick across the wrong side of an applique piece to hold it in place. I also like to do the interfacing or fusible/turn method like Vermont/Kathy. When I'm doing something really intricate and needleturn, I like to use this method: http://users.value.net/pirate/No-Name%2 ... 0Applique/
Hope this helps.

Hey Girls,
Thank you very much for your help. I hope no one got blown away from Ike. We came real close, but Ike decided to turn.
I will try all of your ideas.
Thanks Again

Re: Applique
I would like to try using a straw to turn appliques right side out like demonstrated by Eleanor on her television show. I can't find big straws. Does anyone know where I can get the kind of straw she uses?

Re: Applique
The straws you need to use for the applique like El does, you get them at McDonald's. I learned that several years ago when I was using that method. That is the only place I know that has that size.
