Question about Minkee

I am planning two baby quilts and I am thinking about using Minkee for the backing. I have never sewn with it. How easy is it to quilt? Any help would be appreciated!

Minkee is a newer fabric very soft and kind if fuzzy comes in lots of baby and kid colors

I've used Minkee twice now and had no trouble with it. I used 505 spray adhesive to make the "quilt sandwich" and it kept it from shifting.

One quilt, for my son's 17th birthday, was a double sized. The other was a lap quilt.

There's a couple of long arm quilters, QIAD forum members, that have put it on their long-arms for quilting. Maybe they will pop in here and answer some questions too.

I used Minkee on baby Hannah's quilt. It is very limber and slippery (slinky) and I was afraid of it. Procrastinated for a month before I even tried to load it on my quilt frame. I should not have been afraid of it - it quilted very nicely. I didn't even have to adjust the tension on my machine. One thing I learned was not to pull it so tightly when advancing the quilt on the frame because it stretches. When I took the quilt off the frame it bunched up the top of the quilt just a little bit when the Minkee relaxed but lots of people like that look. Even with that I was still very satisfied with the results. And it is SO soft and cuddly. Also, it comes in 60" widths and the quilt top was 58" so I loaded the Minkee sideways - I was able to purchase less doing it that way. If you don't have a frame I would spray baste it - using lots of spray. Either way, I think you will like it.

Minkee is great on quilts. Just be aware that it is a polyester type fabric. I made one for a grand baby and didn't put any batting in it. Mom and baby loved it. I just pin basted it & did stipple on it on my regular machine.

I press a lightweight interfacing to the back of Minkee before I cut it and quilt it. Works great and the interfacing is soft so the quilt is very soft. Amie

Well, heck Quilterbee, I just slapped the Minkee onto the quilt frame and went to town on my quilt.

Well you go,sister! I pieced some Minkee into the top,too which is what made me wan tto try the interfacing and then I thought, well may as well stablize the backing ,too. Works great but that stuff is $$$$$$$ )

Yes, Quilterbee, I wish it was less expensive. But it is 60" wide. When I did Hannah's quilt it was 58" long. The Minkee was 60" wide so I turned the Minkee sideways and loaded it. I didn't have to buy so much doing it that way. I love it - it is so soft. It never dawned on me to stabilize it. I had fun (yeah, right!)pinning that slinky stuff onto my leaders but once I got it on it was no different than cotton backing.
