does any one know....

Post by grammiequilts » Sun Aug 03, 2008 10:16 am

I have a husqvarna designer machine. I bought a walking foot a few months ago just becase i was afraid id need it and they would quit making them.My machine is an older one . my question is, can you do decorative stitches with a walking foot (as in stitches on a crazy quilt) or will i break something??? All of my manuals do not cover this or the web site that i can find

All the walking feet I have for my machines, I can only do straight stitching. I don't have a Husqavarna though, I think all walking feet are prety much alike.

I have a Viking but a newer one, and I have tried doing decorative stitches with my walking foot and it works great! However, I guess it'll depend on the foot, and if you have a different one than mine it might still not work.

I think the only risk of breaking anything is if your foot only have a small round hole (instead of a "wide" oval opening) where the needle goes down "through" the foot (sorry, have bo clue how to explain that in English, hope that made sense). If it is only a round hole, the needle will obviously not be able to go down for the wide decorative stitchs, and will hit the foot instead

LOL, I don't know if any of that made sense. If you don't see what I mean, I can try to post a pic instead...

I have a DesignerII. I rarely use it. I've found the machine adapts well to the fabric layers. However, I can do fancy stitches with the walking foot if I want.

Thanks My walking foot has a wide opening for the needle so My guess is that it should (the needle)be able to move side to side for the stitches. Maybe Ill try very very slowly and see what it does. rosie mine is a designer II also. Thanks Mary your english is better then some of ours lolXXXOOO

I have a Baby Lock, and the only restriction I have is to NEVER go backwards, that included fancy stitches that have a backwards motion in making the stitch. All other forward and side to side stitches are okay for my model.

Thanks, grammiequilts.

Just an addition: I had no problems sewing a decorative stitch that included backward stitches with my walking foot.

I too have a Designer I. According to the manual the dual feed foot
which is vikings walking foot I believe, many decorative stitches sew well with the open toe dual feed foot. It says to experiment on scraps with the speciality stitches. There are decorative stitches in menu E. Quilt stitches. Hope this helps.
