DELECTABLE MOUNTAINS TUTORIAL ( this swap was from last year)

Post by Caroline1947 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 9:25 am

For newbies...You may send 2, or 4 blocks. ( we are drawing two winners,so that makes sure both winners get equal amount of blocks). Please put the blocks in a baggie or a bubble envelope to protect them if the envelope gets damp. Put your name ,address and forum name in with the blocks.(please put your forum name on each block,as they will be divided). For now I am still asking for 1 stamp per block. PM me for the address. The winner(s) will be drawn on AUG.1st.
The block for this time is a Scrappy Delectable Mountain...directions as follows... Have fun and Good Luck!!! Hugs, Caroline

Here is a link to the on line directions. I do mine a bit differently,as I get a more accurate block,,so you can combine the directions or do however you like. Please use a dark or medium with a light for the background. Any colors,,,but try to get a good contrast.Sometimes two look fine together, but if you stand back a bit they get lost and muddle together,,,so thats a hint for newbies.

here are my hints and pics...( start with two 8
1/2 in. squares,,one main color and one background)

Instead of cutting the squares apart and then sewing them, I do like El and draw a diagonal line ,then sew 1/4 in. on each side. If you are not sure your foot is exactly 1/4, draw the quarter inch lines with a ruler and then sew on that line. This method makes more accurate squares as you didnt cut a stretchy diagonal line first.

After that, cut on the diagonal and press seams light to dark...

Next lay out the blocks as shown and cut into 2 inch sections..

Then take the pieces by the bottoms and turn to the top,,,so it looks like this(the left one has been turned)
Image

sew the sections into two halves ,then sew the two halves together and here ya go!!!

I hope this is do able for everyone,,,its really easy once you get going. The most important thing is measuring and sewing accurately..Have fun!!!( be sure to scroll down on the site and look at all the ways you can set this together!)

Neat!!! I like your method-- can't wait to try it! I've never made a block like this before, but wanted to one day, so I'm glad that you chose this one for August!! :-) Thanks for the instructions and pictures!

Gwen (I'll probably make 4, but let me try it out first!)

Thank you for the tutorial! I've always stayed away from this pattern. I saw it done on TV once and it was so confusing that I just turned it off. And here you do it in 4 simple steps!

Please put me down for 4, I've already got 2 made.

Thanks for the tutorial, Caroline. Looks easy, but let me try it, then. . . .LOL Please put me down for 2. I may do 4, I'll have to see how they go and how I get on with my other "dated" projects. Thanks, hope you're feeling better, my friend, hugs, carol/kittyquilt

Ladies this was a very fun, fast and fantastic block to make! This could very easily by one of my "go to" blocks for a quick quilt from now on. Here are my 4:
