Backing material

Post by Itchn2Bstitchn »

I have a question about backing. I am trying to use up my stash before going out to buy material. Can I use oxford-type material (which I bought to make the boys some shirts, but they've outgrown mom making their clothes and I have lots of it!) I'm wondering if I can use it for backing on the two tops I just made for the dog crates that I want to practice free motion stippling on.

Has anyone had any experience with using this type of material?

I don't know why you couldn't. But someone else is probably smarter than I am on these things LOL

Yes, I think scrappy "from the stash" quilts are great. As long as it's cotton, go for it! I'm in that same mode- use it. Please post a pic, I'd love to see it when your done. Amie :o)

I made my husbands nephews quilts using the oxford cloth. They turned out great and washed wonderfully. I made my husbands dress shirts for years. Loved making them.

I would give it a go. It doesen't sound like these quilts are destined to be heirlooms, so if you use it and you don't like it, you haven't messed up an heirloom.
