log cabin quilt in progress_UPDATED PHOTO

Post by justdawne » Sat May 10, 2008 2:47 pm

I woke up the other day with an idea to use some of the charms from the blue/yellow swap as centers in log cabin blocks.

I gave the blocks to my son to lay on the floor for me. He came up with something pretty neat.

The center:

And this is the rest of his 'vision'. I like it! One of the sides is not completely finished. I ran out of turquoise strips.

Now, it's about 36" square. I could donate it to our local hospital for preemies. They take them up to 36" square.

Or I could make it bigger. Any suggestions how to do that?

I'm getting my new machine on Friday and I plan to get the hang of stippling ASAP. I may quilt this project with all over stippling.

I'm sure whatever you and your son come up with will be perfect... I love "designing" or in my case, tweaking patterns. Unfortunately some times I cause myself more trouble than it's worth!!

I'll be anxious to see the results:)

Redsaltbox,

"How big is it going to be" seems to be THE question.

If I have 2 large squares of the turquoise blue - pretty much completed the way described in the pictures it'd be about 34"-36" square. A lap blanket size.

If I did yet another go round (the appearance of 3 turquoise squares) it would be about 56" square.

OR...I may be able to use borders to make the quilt end up more of a rectangle.

Problem is I have no real 'reason' in mind for making this quilt. I don't know where it will go or to whom it will be given so I hadn't really planned out the size. (grin) I just wanted to see if I would like log cabins started with charm squares ;)

Dawne, looks great so far, I have never really planned the quilts I love the most. I often enjoy just creating as I go and most of those quilts are my charity donations. In my quilt group I have become the person that takes home the "difficult" fabrics to create something special.LOL I take pictures of my donation quilts just so that I can remember them since they are all given to chemo patients by our quilt group.
