Kathy that's beautiful. I love those fabrics. I have some patriotic fabarics and never know what to do with them. You did a great job with the color combos. Lori

Kathy, I have goosebumps! You are obviously a proud Marine mom, and rightfully so! Please thank your son for his service. What a good use of the red, white and blue fabrics. Gives me ideas.

Oh my gosh! Thank you all so much! I must tell you that I had tears in my eyes when I hung it on the wall to take the picture. I called my DH into the room and he loved it. I can't wait to finish it. I have never been so excited about a quilt. The pattern came from El's book. I used fabric I could find to match it.
I have picked a Marine fabric for the back. That will be hard for me because I have to match the pattern to make it wide enough. I know I need to piece the back and hope I get it right. Then I hope to find a LA quilter to do the quilting. I don't want to mess this one up. ;-).

Really great work. Of course I love the Marine fabric. My father was a member of the 1st Division in WWII and was in the first wave on Guadalcanal. The Marines do the grunt work, the Army claims the glory. (This was told to me by an ex Army guy.)

Excellent idea. I have the same one for my Air Force son only his backing is what else but Air Force! Just to let you know we appreciate all your son does and stand behind him all the way.
