What I taught myself today

Post by SFOQuilter » Sun Apr 06, 2008 4:21 pm

I've always admired kaleidoscope blocks so I bought the book One Block Wonders and settled in today to learn. It was pretty easy actually after getting the fabric lined up right. And the hexagons are strip sewn much to my delight. You use just one piece of fabric. Cut strips 6 layers deep and then cut 60 degree triangles. Every set of 6 triangles makes a hexagon and every one looks different!! I didn't believe it until I saw it myself:)I used a piece of "fish in the sea" fabric I had around for practice because it had a nice 12" repeat. The top picture is the fabric I started with.

That is incredible! The color variations are stunning and the blocks really do look like a kaleidoscope.

Would that work with a large floral design?

Judy
