ollie, it sounds like you put the washer(the little thin peice of metal) on the wrong way. when you take the screw off, underneath it is a little washer that is not flat, it kind of bows up. Make sure when you put it on, that the bowed up part is facing up where you put the screw on. Hope you can understand all this mess-lol.

I just bought the new Olfa cutter with the drop out blade changer and it wobbles. I was so disappointed the first time I used it. I've never had a wobbly blade before. I hope someone can help us both! That new cutter is just sitting in my drawer, I'm using my old one.

I agree with quiltfan, also did you tighten the screw.. If that washer isn't on right it will wobble.. I have one like yours and no problem.

I had that problem with the "freebie purple cutter" that I got from QIAD as free gifts. I have several and can't figure out how to use any of them, so they sit in my basket. Did anyone else who got these figure out how to use them? carol/kittyquilt

This discussion had me looking at my fairly new Olfa again. I had changed the blade and it didn't seem to work. The washer was in the right way. Tonight I decided to change the blade again. I discovered two blades! I put one of them back in and it cuts beautifully again! Thanks for making me take a second look!

I never thought about having two blades at the same time but I would be sure to check that. It is easy enough to cut yourself when the cutters are working correctly, so please be careful. Debi

Hi ollie,

I have a couple of ideas that might be of help to you and others here. I had the same 'wobbly blade' problem, too. I learned that Olfa has a "Lifetime Guaranty" on their cutters. You can call them or look it up on their website for info. Basically, they will repair or replace any defective Olfa cutter. They will not replace your blades, tho. I sent two of my cutters to them for repair or replacement. My 'wobbly blade' was on my 45mm, too. They sent them back with a note as to what they did to repair them. All I paid for was the postage to send them, a whole dollar and change, so I'm happy.

I soon noticed that they had put the cutter assembly back together for a right handed person, I am a leftie. Just as soon as DH and I reassembled the parts back to the left side, the blade became wobbly again. DH looked at the cutter more closely and saw where the black thingy that's inside the yellow part of the cutter was protruding more on one side than the other. It was shorter on the left side. We've yet to determine if indeed this is part of the problem, as he was able to tighten things enough for now. I'm going to call Olfa tomorrow and ask them about it.

Has anyone else noticed whether this black thingy is a different size on one side or the other?

Good luck ollie, you've been given some excellent advice here. We sure have to keep these cutters working and doing so safely. Hope some of this helps.

Karla
