Gwen, you're right: 100% cotton, variety of prints or colors, embellishments are optional!

Me too, I'm tempted to join. Will see in couple of days!

Gwen and Denise, I hope that you will be able to join us for this swap. Try out a block and see how it goes and if you start now you have almost 2 months go get 20 blocks done.

I'm hoping Gwen and Denise join us, too! And some more quilters as well...

This should be a lot of fun because no block has to look like any other. With most blocks or paper piecing, you have to do everything the same way, except to maybe change the color of the fabrics. The crazy blocks can just be a bunch of straight seams in a more random order.

Wow - thanks Gwen. Yes, I need to have FAKE spider on my quilt as well. LOL. I'm deathly afraid of spiders (except daddy long legs - [please don't ask me why because I don't know) and snakes.

Ann - did you mail out the patterns?

Well, I made one. It was fun. I will try to post a picture later to make sure that it looks okay. I started with an 11 1/2 inch foundation (muslin), and it ended up at 11 inches, so I need to trim it down to 10 1/2--- is that correct? Also, should I baste around the outer edge? I'm not sure about the embellishments. I added some lace, ribbon and rick-rack, which I think looks good, but wasn't sure what everyone else is doing. I've also got some pretty embroidered flowers that I thought I'd add to some, and some pretty little ribbon roses, as well as buttons and beads. Are those desirable, or not? I don't really have any (well, maybe 1) decorative stitches on my machine, so that isn't really an option. I think I will try to do a little embroidery on the blocks as well, but don't know if I would have enough time to do embroidery on every stitch line. Let me post the picture, and see what you ladies think.

I'll try to take and post one this afternoon--- we're getting ready to got out to eat-- Santa Fe Fajita Company! YUM-- they make the BEST quesadillas!

Gwen, if you don't want to trim them down then don't worry about it, whoever receives them can do the trimming. Can't wait to see your photo.

I'm going to try to upload the scans of the block that I did. I decided to try just scanning it rather than having to get the camera out. The scan doesn't show the entire block-- only a portion of it. Also, this is just a test block, I will be choosing different, prettier fabrics for the actual blocks for the swap.

So, any advice or recommendations? Does anyone see anything that I'm not doing right ? I'd appreciate any advice-- this is my first time doing anything like this-- I've never done paper piecing or anything using a foundation, so I'm sure I've got lots to learn!

Thanks!

Gwen

Ooops! Sorry about the size. I need to remember to resize the pictures before uploading them!

I love your block! I think you could call it 'one down, 19 to go' instead of a test block! I wasn't planning to decorate every seam, but I really like how yours looks. Good job!!!
