ladiehummer, :-)
I have taped to the floor too. I still get puckers. YUK...but the worst part is getting up from the floor when I finish taping and pinning. :-)))

I also love free motion I think more than in the ditch. When I did my king I saved my money for a good quilter and I was floored with the results. I have started taking all mine into her now b/c she's sooo good and has the coolest patterns. I've been making a lot more wall hangings lately though, maybe I should do a couple myself. :) She also charges by the hour ($20) so I think she's better priced than the gals who charge by inch. I also get to skip the whole pining stage and she has warm & natural on a huge roll so I only pay for what she uses... Maybe I'm spoiled, but I've tried just using what fabric I have so I'm saving money that way, and you figure hobbies cost money... I don't know, those are a bunch of my thoughts...

Do you gals, SITD right on the seam or 1/4 inch from it.

Quiltwithmom, I stitch right in the ditch following El's directions in the back of some of her books. I think if you stitch 1/4" away from the seam, that's called echo quilting, but I could be wrong
about that.

LadyHummer! You go girl! I am about to try my first "quilting". In the past, I have always tied them. It is only a crib quilt so my thinking is, I should be alright. I'll learn on the little ones and work my way up to the big ones!

I did it! I did my first machine quilting with the stitch in the ditch. It took me about an hour to figure out "start in the middle". Silly me, I truly started in the middle of the quilt and worked both ways out to the sides for 2 rows!

It turned out well. There are quite a few times that I didn't stay in the ditch, but my MIL says noone will know unless I point them out. So, with that being said, here is my first stitch in the ditch!
Before I put the binding on and scratch it off my UFO list!

Your MIL is correct. Be proud of yourself.
