I need your opinion/help please

OK Ladies and gents, I need your help please.
I've been making a Log Cabin for my DS and his GF and I'm stuck. Here is a single block. The middle square and the background behind the block will be the final border. This is what they want. But I don't know what to do for the 1st and 2nd borders




This is the quilt top so far. I need to make it King size. I need help on deciding borders no 1 and 2. Help! Please! What colours do you suggest? I was thinking border 1 black and border 2 cream??????

It's beautiful, Kadie! What do the colors look like when you audition them? If that pleases you, then go with it! The black would make a nice frame around it, putting the cream in the center would make the last border look like it's floating. Sounds good to me!

Its a beautiful quilt.
Try it with the cream on the inside with the black being the last border. I think the dark would frame it nicely.

Also cream with the dark purple would be nice to frame it.
Thats my opinion.

I would do black for inner to give the eyes a place to rest and the batik for the outter border.....NOT what you wanted to hear(THAT stuff is EXPENSIVE!!!) I love your quilt! LOVE,LOVE ) Amie )

I agree that the darker fabric should frame your blocks and the lighter should be the outer frame. Is there alot of black in the fabrics? I usually like to stay with one of the fabrics in my blocks to use for the borders, but using black would certainly make it pop.

Oh KadieRoo, that's gorgeous!

My two cents: rather than a black border...do you have more of the darkest blue, or the fuschia? I think one of those, the same width as your strips, would make a nice frame for the blocks.

Do you ever do a "make believe" layout? I call it a "fakey-fakey". Lay your quilt out in good light on a flat surface (you can fold it in quarters if it's big). Put the potential borders underneath at a corner, positioning and folding them to make them look as if they were sewn on. Then step back and check the effect. Consider just walking away for 15 minutes or so if you are still puzzling, let your eyes and brain rest, then look at it again.

You have a terrific sense of color--it will work out!

The quilt is beautiful. I agree with CarolJ. I would use the colors already in the quilt. I am sure whatever you do will be great.

I think dark next to blocks and light for outer. It is beautiful.
