A few years back I decided to make a quilt for each grandchild. If I get this accomplished I will make (at the current moment) 13 quilts. My list grew by 2 just this year. I started on a group of 3 that belongs to the same family and figured they needed to be easy or my goal would never be accomplished. I choose a 4 patch,3 1/2 inch blocks using a common color for two blocks in each 4 patch. I have had a blast going through my stash, sewing scraps, and getting new fats. The common colors are orange for one quilt, blue for the second quilt, and green for the third quilt.
So far I have finished the three tops of which has the same pattern in each 4 patch. And every quilt has the same 4 patch in the same location. There are 648 blocks of 3 1/2 inches and I am hand quilting the quilts. Now here is where I am the blue quilt is in the quilting frame and the orange and green are in waiting.
My problem if you have seen the quilt photo section I have made in the middle of this project 5 baby quilts and 1 lap quilt for my DH. I keep getting side tracked. The baby stuff has slowed down. And now I am back to the needle. I am quilting X in each block and actually love the calming of hand quilting.
Today I quilted 12 blocks and am still on a roll. Notes of encouragement would help and while surfing through the other community sections beside the photo section I saw this posting. Thought I need a place t go and say I finished quilting 12 squares!!!!!! Thanks for listening.

Your name suits you, busylady.LOL Good for you on finishing those blocks of hand quilting. I used to do hand quilting but with arthritis I had to move on to doing machine quilting. Hope you can stay on track to finish all those quilts for your grandkids, my daughters have quilts that their grandmother made them and they are very special gifts. My mother passed away 12 years ago so the girls really love their quilts because it keeps their grandma close and reminds them of how much she loved them.
I finished doing my quilting on my ufo Christmas Block Swap quilt and now need to put on the binding. I will have to put it off for a couple of days because I have a lap quilt (gift) that needs to get finished by the end of the week.

Re: UFO Support Group
Finished the Summer Porch quilt this morning--now it can be mailed off to Kendra!
Spent most of the late morning and early afternoon getting a charm quilt layered and tied (I didn't want to try to MQ the flannel backing!). It's all tied now, need to cut binding strips and get them sewn on.
I have a Country Lanes quilt here in jewel tones for another friend. She has dropped out of sight because of health problems. I'd like to finish it and get it to her; now that I am machine quilting, it can get done. I just feel compelled to make sure she gets it, even though I haven't seen her in more than two years.
Ma's quilt top awaits as well; her birthday is tomorrow, wish I had it done for her, but will finish it as soon as the new house is built. It will look so nice in her room! I will MQ it myself as well; or maybe I'll hire it out and have something fancier done than my pedestrian skills will allow...?
I have my wall hanging depicting a house here to MQ, and my coffee mug quilt will need MQing as well, once I figure out what to do with the borders.
I know there are more UFO's here...afraid to look, actually! LOL

Wow Carole! Can you post photos? I'd love to see them especially the jewl country lanes. I am still struggling with PhotoBucket.
Anyway, you've been a busy lady too.
Busylady, glad you decided to post here. We'll be waiting to hear what you got done.
My DD had the day off and we got alot of outside stuff done, but no sewing.

So proud of myself I got 26 little squares quilted yesterday in between my other life projects. For this quilt that is one entire row. I am going to post the pictures of the quilt top on the "Quilting Photo" page for some of you that want to see them.

Carole, I would love to see a picture of your summer porch quilt. I have had one cut out for ages and have yet to put it together, just one of many ufos.
busylady, I saw your photos and your quilts are really great. Don't forget to take breaks and do some hand stretching so that you don't get any repetitive hand injuries while quilting. I think that is what messed my hands up, I didn't know about those types of injuries and by the time I did it was too late. I would love to be able to do hand quilting but it really makes my hands hurt.

Re: UFO Support Group
Thanks for the reminder about resting my hands. I do try not to work on hand quilting for a long period of time. When I pass by the frame I quilt a couple of squares and then go on with my chores. Most of the lap quilts and baby quilts I have started quilting on my sewing machine mainly because they are small. The larger ones I do by hand. I just have more of an opportunity to get ahead in the summer because I teach school and have more time to do what I love the most.
