Cathedral Novice--Inka

This week I took part at a Cathedral Windows course (a very tiny group of four or five ladies) in a small town about 30 minutes´ ride from where I live. The trick is that these windows are not sewn by hand - which I have tried as a probe but did not like - they were too thick and not enough precise to my taste ... so I wonder what these machine sewn windows will be like (I have seen some cushions at an exhibition and they were very elegant).

Here is my Cathedral Windows cushion cover top... I am quite pleased with it. I think the technique offers many combination options - that, of course, still remain to be learned. This is completely different from what you will find if you google for "Cathedral Windows" - all of the instructions are for HAND STITCHED CW only. However, if they search for "machine stitched CW", they will find a book by Shelley Swanland. I have looked for free instructions about this technique but there is NOTHING on the internet - so I am afraid I can not share the "how to" on the forum (don´t want to infringe the copyright, either ....). I do not have the book, unfortunately ...All I can say is that I am still breaking my head with some options this technique offers (have "studied" all weekend) .... it is a technique for more advanced quilters - very patient ones on top!

A pleasure again to post your pictures, Inka. I am going to search my files and see if I have some instructions for this to do by machine. I remember trying it at one time....it is more complicated than it looks....This is beautiful!!

Inka, your Cathedral Windows is just beautiful as is all of your work. I made a CW. I machine sewed the background and hand stitched all the inserts in. I did a king size CW quilt for my daughter and I call it my 'quilt from hell'. It took me forever to do and I don't think, at this point, that I want to do another one. But they are so pretty. You did a great job on your pillow.
