How big are the placemats? Did you do it like a string quilt and then cut out the heart shape after sewing the blocks together? Very pretty and so unusual. Would love to know more about them.

I really like your placemats. They are wonderful. Because I have little to no artistic abilities, I must rely on patterns. Did you use a pattern? If so, what is the name of it? Thanks, Jo Ann

Is this the pattern from the book, The Thimbleberries Book of Quilts?
I never thought of making placemats out of this pattern but I think that is cute idea for Valentines Day meals. I have used this pattern before and made a heart wallhanging for Valentines Day. It is really a very simple and easy 16 inch pattern.

I don't know what you call it but you lay your material face down and sew the next strip right sides together then press open you keep doing this with different strips, the sections have to be numbered so you always work over the raw edges.... then finish with a bias binding around heart.. the heart can be any size just so you work in order. I hope I explained this right..

This type of design is a very simple crazy quilt heart and I believe it is a thimbleberries pattern. If it is the pattern that I think, it is called Holiday Hearts.
