Well.... *blinks* I love it, and I can also see your concerns.

IMHO, when I design blocks, it takes a couple of times to get it RIGHT... well, at least, for me it does. And then, I'm never satisfied - the closet perfectionist in me comes out!

I'm thinking of making some more pirates, this was just my first attempt. I'm going to go ahead and put it in a wallhanging, I didn't wash the fabric and it'll run if I do wash it. I'll make him a quilt for his bed to go with it, probably with lots of pirates and pirate related stuff.

You did great , I loveit.... one time my sister in law had a little vW and she was going canoeing and my husband put the canoe on her little car so I had taken a picture of it... later I made her a block of her house brownish color for it was permanent log, put flower pot in window. name on mail box and the car parked in front with the canoe on the top... just played around with it and added a few extras like flowers along the house and made sure the rope that tied the canoe on was yellow like the nylon rope my husband used...... she was so tickled with the block that she had her daughter made it into a pillow....I wish I had taken a picture of it. but never even thought about it.It is fun to make things like that but to design a whole quilt, that would be hard.. I think you did good on your pirate, but you never know on your next one you might get carried away and give him a hook and a peg leg....... and maybe a bottle of rum setting some where.... you can go on and on......... with imagination. I know I did on that block that I made. Even had smoke coming out of the chimney, and clouds in the sky... surprise I didn't put a snake in the grass... lol none of it was appliqued, I did put some lace for curtains on the windows..... lol

hehe, I think I'll do that with the next pirate block I do, a peg-legged, hooked-handed, drunken pirate, that would be great!
