flying geese units in blocks

Does anyone know of blocks that use flying geese units? I've made a scrappy star and would like to continue experimenting.

You could make this block using two sets of the 3 X 6 Flying geese and reversing the colors in the sets.

Remember, when you want the small geese to be two different colors, you need to make two sets. For example, 3 X 6 geese, large triangle is white and one small triangle is red and the other is blue. When you make the two sets, one set will have a large red square (9") and one small white square (7 1/2") the other set will have have a large blue 9" square a small 7 1/2" white square. When you draw the diagonal line and sew 1/4" down both sides of the line, then cut on the line, press open, this is where you swap them. You will take one part that is red and white and match it up with one that is blue and white, then continue with the directions on the flying geese ruler.

There are lots of patterns at Quilterscache that you can adapt to the flying geese rulers.

If you have the Egg Money Quilts book, look under the Peony block it will explain in more detail how to do this. If you don't have it, let me know and I will look it up online for you. I know they have it over at HGTV under Simply Quilts when Eleanor was a guest.

Also, at the top of this screen, click on download free patterns. There are 5 patterns there that use the flying geese rulers.

Hello all!
My favorite go-to site is McCall's Quilting Patterns at:

The patterns are in ABC order. If you click on the link for"S" as in Star - there are many patterns for 12" blocks. The patterns are in in full color and give all of the cutting and sewing directions per finished block - there are no yardages given for quilt sizes.
Some of the pattern names are: Sawtooth Star, Starburst, Star In a Star, Star in Square, and Sunrise Star.

You can also print out labels on printer fabric! Just tons of patterns to spend time looking over!
