Thanks, Susie. That's very helpful information. I'm going to add hand quilting to my list this year to try.

I got the quilting paddle today and put together two 16" squares of fabric with the batting I normally use ... then put this little "quilt" in a hoop and started practicing. I tried the paddle, various other thimbles, different sizes of needles, and practiced hand-quilting most of the afternoon. All the thimbles seemed awkward so I tried doing it without one, but poked my fingers a lot so I went back to using the thimbles. The stitches don't look very good, but I'll keep at it and might get the knack of it. I tried the stick-on finger pads too and they worked quite well. I was halfway through making dinner before I realized I still had one on my finger ... good thing they stay on real good. LOL
