Not in my mind. Tossed Nine Patch is a QID pattern. When I hear split nine patch I think of a 9-patch made with squares and half-square triangles. It is split diagonaly with dark on one side and light on the other side.

Tossed Nine Patch is a QIAD pattern. Here's one that I made for my son's girlfriend for Christmas.

You basically make a nine patch, then even cut it into equal quarters.

Knitnoid, do you have a quilt with the "split 9", I really like that one?

This is all split 9-patches. I call it Which Way is Up? DH and I worked on the layout flipping blocks until we found a pattern we liked. This is my quilt - most I give away :-)

knitnoid, that's a very dramatic, beautiful quilt!

Amazing what designs you can come up with using a half-square triangle!

I really like that split 9 patch. It looks like a great way to get rid of scraps. I might have to try that. Adding it to my long, long mental list of quilts to do in the future. LOL
