Input Welcome a.k.a. NEEDED

Post by justdawne » Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:41 am

Hello folks,
This Jan. is the start, in some ways, of my first calendar year of quilting. I'm attempting to make New Year's Resolutions with regards to charity quilts.

First resolution is to commit to one quilt, including a time frame and finish it entirely. #2 is to then make more resolutions ;)

So, I'm hoping some of you will have a moment to visit this website:
http://www.righttoplay.com/site/PageSer ... PageServer

At the top, in the uppermost left corner is the RTP logo. The gold, red and black make up the colour palette. I have a RTP shirt that I can cut into a large square for the middle of the quilt and work out from there. Or, I can just keep my shirt ;)

I'd like to make something that can be auctioned off so I'm thinking lap quilt size. Thoughts?

All suggestions and ideas welcome,
dawne

dawne - I looked at the website. It always amazes me that so many wonderful things can be done when someone has a vision, follows through and makes it happen. Can't help with any ideas as I am a dud in quilt designing. That's why I have so many QIAD books and patterns. lol

could you scan your shirt and then pull out the logo to create a paper piece block? You could then make that the center of the quilt.

sewcarolyn,
You give me too much credit. I've never tried to paper piece. It's on my 'do a class' list though.

If paper pieceing isn't your thing, trace around teh design onto fusible web and use that for the center. I've done that before and it works out well, and easily.

I've decided to do a rail fence quilt with the red, yellow and blaok for the quilt top. I'll take my shirt with me when I buy the fabric. What's the best order to put the colours? Is it, for example, light, medium and dark? I want to get the best effect. Any opinions?

On the backside of the quilt I hope to have the yellow colour with a big red soccer ball in the middle. On the ball I will likely paint with fabric paint the motto - "Look after yourself. Look after one another." Or, if it's isn't too pricey I'll have someone machine embroider it for me.

I'm getting pretty excited. I love having good ideas. I'm hoping for more classes this year to build more skills!

Dawne - I just went to your site and right-clicked over the logo and then opened up a Word Document and pasted it.
If you make it large enough - you could then ... Reverse the picture and then print it out on transfer/iron-on paper )like on t-shirts).

Shelley has a great idea...you could do that or print it directly on fabric which is treated for printing on. My brother gave me some for Christmas but I haven't used it yet.
