Helping the local FFA chapter--latest update
My son is the President of the FFA Alumni. He was also Chapter President years ago. They are collecting items that will be sold on March 15, with all proceeds going to the local FFA chapter. The alumni has a website-I just don't know what it is.I know everyone is busy at this time of the year, but I was wondering if any of you would like to send an item or something. They are looking for things for the entire family. He's asked me to make a couple of things, so I need to get out of this slump and get busy. I will send you my addy if you pm me. Thanks so much. I know it's a busy time and there are so many things to do so if you can't participate I fully understand.
Sandy
Any thing will be appreciated!! The FFA chapter has never done this before, although the one in Paw Paw has. Anything for children, men, women, just anything. Anything goes,in good clean taste of course.
Jon was the 1999 Crops judging Illinois State Champion. He has a major in Forestry from SIU of Illinois.
In order to have your name listed by your donation in the paper and the auction pamphlet the items must be here by the 21 of February. Items will be taken up to the night of the sale, but those names will not be listed on the pamphlet. Thanks.

kho,
Hey and congratulations of the FFA president. I have 3 sons, 2 are still in FFA...one DS3 is a Sentinel. I am helping his chapter by donating a Brest Cancer quilt to be raffled by Valentine's Day. It has the brest cancer fabrics too. Half to Susan G Komen Foundation and half to buy calculators for the Forestry team (I hope). Best Wishes on the fund raising. Can you list what types of items you are looking for?

Kho, Can you give us some idea of what kinds of items? Flea market types of things, like nick nacks or some assorted dishes, glasses, mugs, etc. Or good used clothing? Often times people like to get Christmas ornaments at events like this. Is that something they could use? Or craft things, like knitting needles, crochet hooks, scissors, needles, or how about quilting things, like maybe an FQ or 2? Maybe letting us know what he asked you to make would be helpful in giving us some idea of what they are thinking about.
I would like to send somethings, but need a little guidance as to just what. I think this organization is great! carol/kittyquilt

Jon asked me to make an afghan or two.No used clothing, general knick knacks, if you send fq's I'll bid on them.Toy tractors, model cars, knick knacks that you would find at a flea market, wall hangings, easter basket, decorative storage boxes, books for young children, are thing other people have donated to the one in another town.Christmas ornaments would be good. It's hard to say what exactly as this group has never done this before. They will also be going to local business for donations of services or coupons and what not. They need a large variety that will appeal to the entire family. If your kids or grandkids would want it, these folks will too. Does this help??

Yes, Sandy, that helps. I'll get some things together and send a package. When do you need to have it, you said March 15 is the sale, so I'm guessing first week of March would be okay? thank, carol/kittyquilt

Re: Helping the local FFA chapter--latest update
I know this is such a silly question but what does FFA mean? Fire Fighter Assoc?
If so, I can give you a suggestion for you to tell your son. Each year our local fire fighters have a boot drive. They put a fire engine in the parking lot of a major shopping area. At each entrance, exit they collect money in, you guess it - boots
They give out tatoos for the kids.
The big appeal is getting to see a fire truck up close, talk to fire fighters and stare up at the guy/girl who sleeps in the bucket. The person is up their for 24 hours, coming down for bathroom breaks and meal times. It's a huge draw.
I will look around to see if I have anything of interest that won't weigh too much to ship.

Dawne FFA stands for Future Farmers of America. Its a high school organisation. I don't know to much about it as I grew up in "the city" so we didn't have a big FFA but here "up North" we have a lot more FFA groups.
We have a MD boot drive with the fire fighters here every year.

I would say by the end of February. The items are going to be listed in a pamphlet with their item number, name of item and the name of the person donating it. I picked up some fabric to see about doing a quilt. I may have to find a professional quilter to get it done. I'm looking at the lemonade one. Thanks for all of your help.
