Re: when and why did you start quilting?
I have known how to sew since I was in my early teens. When my daughter was young I would sew her halloween costumes and I would occasionally make window treatments but that was about it. A little over 3 years ago I stopped into a quilt shop to see about getting an old quilt made by my grandmother repaired. The ladies in the shop convinced me to try a class and I'm so glad I did, I LOVE everything about quilting, like the new friends I have made, the challenges of learning new things, and expressing myself through fabric. I consider myself an artist, which is something most accountants are not known for! So far I have only made quilt tops and have had them hand or machine quilted by professionals. I have probably finished around 25 quilts since I started. I have one UFO, a quilt as you go class that did not appeal to me but I WILL do something with the material I cut for that class sometime!!

Re: when and why did you start quilting?
I am a beginner quilter and started quilting about June '07. A friend of my mothers made a patch quilt that she sewed for me by hand and I cherished it until it fell apart. From then on I always wanted to learn how to quilt. I started watching all the quilting shows that I could find and then seem like that's when the fun began. My first quilt I did by hand and it turned out great!! Now I am machine quilting and I have been doing only lap quilts for starters. I learned to do the birthing technique and fell in love with it. Now I am trying to learn how to master binding I love any assistance I can get from any of my quilting friends.

In High School Home EC I learned to sew. I loved cutting up and sewing it together. I made cloths for me,my baby sisters and for Mrs.White, the Home Ec. teacher. With my first pay check from a full time job I bought a Singer(1969). I still have it and a Phaff. When I had babies{2girls} I sewed everything for them. That is until "home made" was a no no.
I never thought about quilting. I knew no one that quilted. In 1980 my daughted(9yrs old) went to Summer Rec. One of the classes was sewing and she started a quilt out of left over clothes fabric. I did not even know what to use for batting. We used a cotten thermal blanket and she tied it.
This "Quilt" was very intriguing to me.When Adult Ed at th HS offered a class I signed right up.The teacher had us do everything by hand. I just loved it. She was also a member of a new quilt guild. I signed up for that also. I have been quilting ever since and loving it.(: (:

I am a new quilter but a long time sewer. I see fabric and just imagine what I can make. I never ever thought about quilting till just recently I was surfing and saw a quilting thing. ALthough my son did get a quilt when he was in the hospital, I saw the quilting thing and thought hmmmmmmmmmmm. I went to a quilt guild meeting and started watching simply quilts and I AM SO HOOKED. My daughter now wants to learn to quilt. I just love seeing making and everything quilt. My kids say I should join quilters anonymous.
