I sewed 12" strings on the diagonal, them trimmed them to 10.5. I cut each block into 4ths and sewed the off white background to each piece, then alternated the string center and the white center. When I made the Large block, somehow I messed up the math and they were supposed to be 12" squares, but ended up 13.5, so I had to trim them down. I bordered ot with blue and the white, and simply wrapped the backing around for the binding. It took me about a month, but because I didn't have to be real accurate on the string piecing, I could work on it when I wasn't feeling well. I am proud of this mostly because I was able to do it being really really sick and it didn't turn out half bad, and the design is my own.

This is laid in my QUEEN sized bed. My SS and fiancee are large ppl, and have a king sized bed.

It's lovely! Do you sew the strings onto a foundation?

Yep, I did sew the strings to a fabric foundation. I used scrap muslin backing, some really ugly stuff i was given, and some that wasn't too bad I kept in view in the center. Because it had SOOO many layers, it was impossible to machine quilt, hence the tying.

I just love the scrappy quilts. Am working on my first one as we speak. Took some time to accumulate enough scraps to look right.
Yours really looks nice!
