What do you keep used needles in?

Post by CindyB » Tue Nov 20, 2007 9:30 am

I'm frugal - I keep my used sewing machine needles in the plastic container that my razor blades come in (Schick razor). It's a good way to keep the used seperated from the new...

my DH drilled a hole in the cap of an empty medicine bottle that pills came in. I just put them down that hole when I am done with them. That way they don't go in the waste basket for someone to get stuck with. Marge

I saved used needles for a long time but realized I never used one of them again. What do you use the needles for?

Nancy's notions has a pin sharpener, I don't see why it wouldn't work with the old needles.

I do the same thing as mic-pa, but without the drilled hole. Just write "used" with permanent pen.

I'm curious also as to what you use them for. I'm teaching my nieces to sew and have them sewing without thread on paper lines to build up their skills and I suppose I could use used needles for this now that I think of it a little.

Have Fun,

I keep a small glass jar on my sewing table. Bent pins, dull needles and dull rotary cutter blades go in there. I throw it out when it's full.

I use an old camera film container. You can get loads in thereandit doesn't take up a lot of space.

I use an old sewing machine needle to score the paper side of fuseabe, makes it real easy to peel the paper off the backing. I also use old needles to paper piece, which I do very little of.

I use a hat pin to score paper backing, it's big and easy to find in the pincushion and it's fun to look at. I prefer a new needle when I paper piece, because I'm sewing fabric with the paper. It makes a big difference in the stitch and ease of removing the paper.

I use used needles to hang wall hangings or other small quilted items. They hammer in very easily, are strong and don't leave a large hole in your walls or quilts and you hardly notice them.
