We made the stars at a course I went to yesterday. I have finished them today being happy to have learned new blocks!
Had some trouble cutting the diamonds without templates, just using the ruler - but it is very simple if you cut stripes at 60 degrees /OR 45 degrees/ and then turn them vertically and cut diamonds the same width.
Ouch, ACCURACY COUNTS here - there are many points to meet and Y-seams in the Lonestar block. The original block was completed by four squares and four triangles to make a square block - but I wanted this one. These squares can be fussy-cut (making use of the fabric pattern of a motiff). The outer diamonds are the same size as those in the middle of the star. There is one snag with the log cabin star (the first) - be careful when adding new stripes - they must cover the pointed angle when ironed open! Yes - don´t forget NOT to sew to the edge with the Lonestar (on both ends). The highfliers obtain a neat rosette in the middle (on the reverse side) - it can be ironed almost flat! It took me a while, by the way ...
