I have not tried it with any of their stencils, but I have used it with a regular stencil. Worked fine for most of the quilt, but by the time I got to the end of the quilt it was smearing some.

I just bought a used one recently and marked a dark quilt with a regualr stencil. The thing I found out was to just lightly rub it across the stencil. Is your fabric light colored? Maybe the white chalk just is too light? If you figure it out let me know in case I run into trouble next time with it.
Did yours come with these things that look like slivers of soap??? I had some in my package but no instruction on using them?

The DVD that is from QIAD came and I listened to several sections.
The title is Machine Quilting Primer. It was on sale. But, I said all of that to say they talked about the marking. Only mark a section at a time, since it will rub out, and flop off the material.
So, I mark about 3 at a time. Yes, it is "tuff" to stop and go, but it does work better. I have had good success with the pounce, and it does taking some practice to get used to it.

Ollie - Is the chalk not coming out of the pounce? I think I read a post on here once that said you had to pound it inside a bag for a bit to get that chalk worked down into the pad thing. Since mine was used I didn't have to do that...it was already coming out. I have never used the blue chalk and wonder if it comes out with steam like the white chalk. Like TheKid said...you want to mark just a small section at a time as the chalk does go away while you are stitching (I am hand-stitching). Maybe with machine stitching it lasts longer.
All in all I like mine. I had a bad experience using a F and P pencil and couldn't really get it all washed out. Let me know if you finally get it working. Try the white chalk on a darker fabric.

Ollie - I used the pouncer on my last quilt. I used the blue powder, marked the whole quilt going in the wrong direction and then I couldn't get the marks off. Had to use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser to get the first marks off. I spritzed the quilt with water, put down my stencil then pounced. Well not really pounced - I more or less kind of rubbed it. My marks stayed on the quilt the whole time I was quilting. I had to wash the quilt to get the blue markings off. Maybe spritzing with water first is the key.

Don't steam the blue stuff!!!! It will set the marks. The blue can be very difficult to get rid of. When I am working with a light fabric/quilt, I will use my ultraviolet light and the glowing powder. It works so much better! I can see it and it doesn't show even if I don't get every speck out.

An alternative to using your pounce pad is to use a foam paint brush with the powder. It takes some time to get the pounce pad really worked in and functioning easily.

OK qtlsbme.....I have never heard of glowing powder and ultraviolet lights!!!! Sounds like a sci-fi type thing. LOL Where does one get this stuff? Sounds magical! I often wonder how people mark those white whole cloth quilts with those intricate designs. I would really like to do one of those someday as I like hand quilting. Sounds like your glowing powder would be good. Do they make huge stencils for a whole cloth quilt or how do they do do those designs? I am full of questions today.....sorry...

Susie, lots of Quilt Shops have the Whole Cloth Quilt kits. They are premarked and ready for hand quilting or machine quilting. If it doesn't have quite enough quilting marked on it for ya, you can always do more on your own. Like a stipple or meander. I think they are just beautiful and would love to do one myself one day. Google for them and see what comes up. Bet there are sev. places online that you can order from.
