A Lone Star Pattern
I'm looking for a pattern and the technique to construct a lone star block for my husband's quilt. I would welcome hearing from anyone who has done this design before.

You should really consider QuiltSmart for that. My friend made hers in a day, it's the BIG one (60 x 60). Check out their site and El sells them to. Amie

I just checked their website and they've added a tutorial section. The BIG one is $29.99 for the 58 x 58 lone star. Amie

Lonestars can be strip pieced. That's how i did the center of my sister's quilt in progress and half a dozen sweatshirts. Of course naturally, I can't remember who has really good instructions. I'll check with the woman who teaches at one of the quilt retreats I go to. There's usually 2 or 3 women working on them there. In fact a couple of years ago, one of the ladies had just started quilting -- I think they took her to the fabric shop on the way to the retreat - and her first quilt was a queen size lone star!

I agree with using the QuiltSmart Pattern. I know that this method and pattern have been taught in our shop with great success.

Yes, Quiltsmart is wonderful for the Lone Star. I made the wall hanging size a few years back, using some really bright colors and a black backgound. I machine quilted with varigated thread in the diamonds and invisible feathers on the background. I actually won 3rd place at our county fair with that quilt. The judge's comments included how perfect the points and seams matched within the star.

El has a pattern for the lone star. I have done it several times and it is very easy. I done it from a vcr tape taped in her early years but i think i have seen the book in the book section. QG
