Evie, yes it's embroidered by hand and then machine quilted.

zfatcat, what a great wall-hanging! And, great quilting! Being a newbie to machine quilting, I just have to ask you: when you quilted the lines, did you stop and secure the thread for every line when you reached the embroidered areas, or did you stitch also along the embroidered areas and kept turning the quilt around for each line...?

(Did that make any sense at all..???)
