Linda, yes, the basting spray holds the three layers together really secure! Once spray-basted, the quilt sandwich can withstand very heavy handling, over a long time period (at least a few months), and it won't shift a bit. It is remarkably efficient. Also, the glue is helping to prevent any puckering that may otherwise occur. In my view, it is a fantastic invention!

I've heard different experiences form different brands, though. The one I had heard only good things about was the 505, so that's the one I've been using and I love it!

I have used the basting on a couple of quilts but I don't think it holds the fabric tight enough. It also leaves holes in the fabric. Carol

Where do you get the basting spray? I searched on QIAD and it didn't come up. Basting has to be my least favorite part of quilting.

I'm glad this came up. I was just looking at our local craft store ad and they have one of the basting guns on sale. I was thinking of trying it. Now I think my money would be better spent on trying the basting spray. Thanks

Mine doesn't hold the fabric tight enough and you are supposed to use some kind of egg crate thing under it, which I don't have andd so it is hard to get them to go through. So I just use mine for other things like Sherry. I pin mine but that is as bad as basting I think. I have some 505 that I think I will try the next time.

nanjam 62 and others using PINS - I think my pins are giant and they seem to make and leave HOLES in the fabric, which I hate!

I hear using basting GLUE SPRAY results in sticky needles and thread and untidy looks of your work ... (?)

Thanks to ALL of you - I think you have saved me a lot of money and disappointment .... Next I am going to look for a real good basting spray, maybe the 5O5 if I manage to find it here. Which online shop would sell it, by the way?

Inka, they sell the 505 here:

I found it at a local quilt store and the price is the same as here.

I really like this spray best of all. It kept my quilt layers from shifting (I used minkee for the backing). I still pinned, but I didn't pin as much if I hadn't sprayed.
