I have a treadle, too! Lovely machine, so quiet and smooth! Mine is a Wheeler and Wilson #9, from 1851. You can buy a clip-on light at Walmart to clip on the back of the cabinet and bend it where you need it. Amie

I have a little story about my sewing machine. I started quilting two years ago, and pulled out my old Kenmore. I was quite frustrated -- didn't know about a "walking foot". The quilting bug hit me hard, but shortly after I started the company I worked for let go 500 people!
That Xmas my 27 year old son researched quilting, and sewing machine information on-line, drove 55 miles to the nearest Bernina dealer, and bought me a machine for Xmas.
I never cried when I got a gift, until then!!

I have 2 new Janomes. They are great machines. But, I really missed my Singer 301. The motor burned up on it and the repair shop told me that it would cost more to fix it then to buy a new one. That was about 17 years ago. My husband bought me one off ebay. Now that's my favorite.
