I've used the Press & Seal in the center of blocks, etc., not yet on a large quilt. I like it but have found it is better to sew a thread above or below the drawn line so that the pen mark doesn't get entangled in the thread. You can get it all out with a damp cloth or toothbrush but that's a lot of work.

Let me get this right...When you say "press" you DON"T mean with an iron go you? Do you just roll it out over your quilt top and press it down with your hands. Are there any tricks to getting it on smoothly that I should know about? I have some now courtsy of forum sisters and would like to know the finer details of using it.
Thanks
kadie

Kadie - Just smooth it with your hands over your fabric and then draw your design

Ladies, go look in the photo section at my recent finish folder. This was a paper pieced baby quilt, & I used this method. I also used a very fine sharpie to mark it. I did the free motion type meandering all over the top, following the line I drew. None of the ink colored my thread & my stitching lines weren't so close together, that the plastic was hard to remove. Took some time, but not hard. Now, if I were doing a small, close together, intricate design, I might not want to use it. But, for this quilt, & this stitching, it worked great....

I think, like any method, try it & see if you like it, & if works for you & the project you are working on. All of us are different, as are our machines & the way stitch. It works for me, but some you may decide otherwise.....

kadie, how fun, I too just received a roll of Press and Seal from an unbelievably helpful forum sister, and I can't wait to try it. Only problem is I have no finished quilt top to try it on right now... Can't even try it on a small practice piece, as I'm also away from my sewing machine at the moment...:-(

Well, I'm definately putting it on my shopping list. I've heard you can use it for things other that quilting, but have never had any.

LOL, here's a very belated report on my experience with the Press n Seal... I thought it worked quite well, actually. It stuck to the fabric, and was not too difficult to pull off once the quilting was finished. There were a few bits that I had to pull out with a tweezer, but they came off without also pulling the thread.

So, Littlebit, I agree with your "review" of this method!

If anyone is interested, I've posted a few pics of the "experiment" on my new blog :-):

Homespunmary........What a wonderful site! I went to Photobucket and saw all of your beautiful quilts. I really like the pink with the purple border. Can't wait to see your whitework quilt. I'm still reading about the McTavish way and need to watch the DVD a few more time. But I think I'll try the press and seal also. When this post was firt here, I had not even dreamed of free motion.

Is there a way to make comments at your blog site?

Have Fun,

Oasis and sunsup, thanks!

As for posting comments on the blog, well, I'm still trying to learn how this works, but it seems to me it should be possible for anyone to comment by clicking on "comment" at the end of each post...?
