Fabric Journal

Does anyone keep a fabric journal? I read about it recently and thought it sounded like a good idea.

Do you snip bits of your stash to put in the journal? Never heard of this but it sounds like a great idea. Especially for those whose stash cannot be seen all at one time. lol. You could arrange your journal by color and list how many yards you have. You could actually plan a quilt just by looking at your journal.

hmmmmm, I like the idea but I know I am way to lazy to go through all that work. lol Sure wish I was that organized.

I have a friend that keeps pushing me into starting one. But I am not brave enough to admit some of my quilts right now. Maybe when I feel a little more comfortable showing them. I might start documenting them for whomever. But some of you should be braver than I am because your quilting is awesome!

Sounds like a very helpful thing! If I had the energy to do it, I would. Maybe that could be a good project for after the holidays. Hmmm You really could plan a quilt with your journal. GREAT idea ladies!

I really wish I had taken a picture of every quilt I have ever made. It would be so much fun to look back and see improvements and how I ventured out to more difficult patterns. It would be like a "This is your Quilt Life" album. lol

Have started taking pics now, but you know, I don't have a pic of my very first quilt! should get more organized though and start a journal. I have several blank ones laying around I found when my Mom passed away. Guess she didn't keep one either!

Evie you can use any journal to make it. I think a sprial notebook would be better though to accommadate the fabric. I already have journals with pictures of my quilts and when I made them. Now I want to get the fabric journal going. The one I saw on a show, was made in the early 1900's. They had kept squares of fabric in a book. And then note what the fabric had been used for. Over a life time, could you image how many different fabrics you would have?

I have a journal of sorts. It's just a little photo album and there's a place to document what the picture is. In my case it's the quilts. I wish I had a larger album so that I can add snipets of the fabrics that I used in each quilt. Pictures don't always come out the right colors.

I started one and that lasted about 2 or 3 months!!! lol To keep up with another project??? It sounds good in theory and those that are more organized than me I'm sure could do it....I guess I just need to get priorities straight.

It kind of makes me think about scrapbooking. Nobody is gonna care about it when you're gone, the books will end up in the trash but the quilts IMHO will be continued to be used.....or at least I hope so.
