I have the same problem as Cathy32078. I tend to buy too many prints & then have a hard time getting the right combo to make the right block. I guess I need to just start buying solids in all colors. Maybe that'll help.

Fabric madness? no such thing!

I find it hard to establish a method to my stash buying. I also have a habit of buying 'pretty' fabric.
The last couple years I have started buying season fabrics. Christmas, spring, and fall. Later I started collecting Civil war, batiks, repro. etc. The repro seem to all go together, same as the civil war.
My pretty fabrics that dont have a purpose or home, I use in a scrappy quilt.

I just went to a local quit shop on Saturday with my minster. The shop had 25% off for their anniversary sale.
They gave out tickets and my number was called and got a stash of plaids - which I collect!
But as for stash buying...I bought a lot of Christmas fabric for our quilt club's 12" Sawtooth Star block exchange.
While everything was 25%off - I purchased 3 yds each of two nice tone on tone fabrics that would make nice yet interesting backgrounds for the Sawtooths.
So that's one way to shop "out-of-the-stash"!!!

I have two methods of fabric buying. One-if I like it I buy it (never less than 1 yard). Needless to say I have "lots". I just tell my husband i won't have to buy any when I retire. (Ha, Ha) My second method is for a specific project. Right now I am collecting Civil War reproductions to make a Civil War quilt for my son who is a re-enactor with a Kentucky unit.

I purchase fat quarter bundles. I find there are some colors in there I wouldn't normally purchase and it gives me more of a variety.Otherwise I tend to buy the same colors. I don't find many that I dislike, but in a bundle they all seem to look great together.

I stock up on border prints when I find them I look at the repeat and then calculate enough to go all the way around the largest border on a king size bed -
