Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
GP I have an embroidery card that has different branches of the military logo's on it. Are you sending these to the Army or the Marines or ????
I know the different branches are loyal to their own and I don't want to ruffle any feathers by sending the wrong logo. OR>..........
I could just put "thanks for serving your country"??????What do ya think???

Tiggersmom, that sounds wonderful! One unit at Ft. Stewart is Army, and I don't know what branch SHARONMAMAW's son is in, I assume it's Army, too, but I don't know yet. I like the saying you mentioned because that would apply to all and wouldn't get mixed up in the sorting for pkgs. Still haven't heard anything back today about e-mail addresses and contact names. Will soon, though.

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
The first stockings arrived at my house today!!!! mic-pa sent 4 of the cutest stockings you've ever seen! DH and I got so excited looking at them, and she sent the sweetest message...and of course, I cried.
And dforseth sent a cash donation. And mequilter donated some beautiful Christmas fabrics.
Oh goodness, this is REALLY getting exciting!! I will post some pics when I get my design wall at the office covered with the first batches of stockings so everyone can see what they all look like as they come in! (Correction: I'll have DH post pics, ya'll know I don't do that computer stuff!)

BRADLEE IS IN THE ARMY. IN THE PIC. HE IS THE FIRST ON THE LEFT BOTTOM ROW. I STILL HAVEN'T HEARD FROM HIS SERGANT FOR A EMAIL ADDRESS. I'M CHECKING WITH MY GROUP TONIGHT ABOUT MAKING STOCKINGS ALSO!
BRADLEE SAID THE BEST THING TO SEND IS " WET ONES" LIKE BABY WIPES, BUT THEY ARE UNSCENTED. HE HAS ALSO RECEIVED THE COOL NECK TIES AND HE SAYS THEY WORK GREAT! ANOTHER GREAT THING IS SOCKS...... HE SAID YOU HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR FEET, LOL. WE TOOK HIM TO THE AIRPORT YESTERDAY. IT WAS REALLY SAD WATCHING HIM LEAVE AGAIN.......

GP. . .the pictures are going to be great. We might pick up a new idea or two to add to our own version of the stockings.
Possibly start a new discussion as this one takes a while to download there are so many wonderful comments.

Socks, great idea! We were already planning on the wet wipes, batteries, etc... but I really like the idea of socks. Ever since my boys were toddlers I've, I mean Santa, has put socks and tooth brushes and those books of Life Savers in their stockings, so the socks just seem like they should go in a stocking! LOL! Wow, since the stockings are such a nice size, I'll bet we can get one of those multi-packs of socks in there! SHARONMAMAW, I've given the info you sent me to my DH and he's going to follow up on it today. Thanks so much.

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
I meet with my group tonight and I think everyone will be happy to be involved. I'll suggest we could each donate a pkg of socks or something for the stockings. I can't imagine how it would feel to be away from home and family, especially at Christmas time. How about postage stamps? do they need those? And the female soldiers, their needs are alot different from the male soldiers. Feminine products? Do we have a cutoff date yet? How about playing cards?
Can you tell I'm excited!!!!

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
akeleyquilter, that would be wonderful if your group would like to donate socks! Yes, playing cards are on the list, as well. As soon as we get a response back from the Sgt. we're to contact, I'll post a list of things he says they want and anyone who'd like to contribute...wonderful!
Also, anyone who knows a soldier in Iraq or has a loved one over there and would like to have stockings sent to his/her platoon, message me with an e-mail address and contact name so we can make arrangements! The sooner we get this info, the sooner we can get arrangements made and I'll be able to give ya'll the cut-off date for getting the stockings to me. Yahoo!!!

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
Ok, the ball is rolling now. I've just sent an e-mail to a Sgt. in Iraq, SHARONMAMAW's son's Sgt. I asked all the questions we've had, like how many females there are, and # in the platoon, etc... and if he knows of others who would like to receive them to give my e-mail address so they can contact me. I asked him to tell me specific items they would like to receive, too. So, when he responds to my e-mail I'll let ya'll know and keep you abreast of what's happening with this. Now, back to "Santa's Workshop" for this elf........

Re: Christmas Stockings for Troops
I started my stockings today. I had to wash and iron my fabrics first. Oh, well, anyway, I'm having a problem. I cut the batting in the shape of the stocking and by the time I'm thru sewing on all the strips the stocking is all cattywompus. Are y'all doing them like the instruction say or some other way?
