I know you are supposed to practice but I was never good at dress rehearsals

GQ - It doesn't have to end up being a dress, so that's ok!

You can make it into a potholder if you use cotton batting!

The first person to teach me told me to go fast-the faster the better. I find that I do better when I go slower-stiches are more consistent. I would LOVE to get a LA. I got to test drive a Tin Lizzie at a shop in Elmhurst, IL.

I meander quilt mine at the LQS. I just go down there, hand the lady a $100 bill, leave, come back in a few weeks, and presto! It is all done.

Wesignificant-LOL I like how you think. I just don't have the extra $$ to pay someone to do my quilts. I am thinking of asking my mom for a loan for a LA, though. Maybe we'll be business partners?

I ju st practiced alot.
I bought some cheater cloth (eeks) and made baby doll quilts for my grand daughters. It was fun practicing on the doll quilts. I didn't want to use the expensive fabric.
I also have EQ5 and 6; and I experiment with different quilting designs; and then try it on my machine (Janome 6600)

Meandering or stippling takes practice. Try to think of a dog bone shape and start with that. Or try some simple design and repeat the motion over and over. Eventually you'll get really go at it. I stipple alot and am pleased with the technique over the years. Try not to cross over previous stitches, but if you do, no one will notice it. Good luck.
