Re: Quilters Dogs
My quilting companion is Stanley. He's half Border Collie and half Black Lab. He's lost his girlish figure and now weighs 70 pounds. He's somewhere between 12 and 14 years old. We adopted him from CARE. He has the collie markings but has a deep chest. He thinks its his duty to keep an eye on me. My cutting table is upstairs in my bedroom and my sewing machine is in the dining room. When I'm busy on a quilt I spend a lot of time going back and forth on those stairs. Stanley will at first try to keep up with me, then gets extremely worn out and flops down somewhere in the middle where he can see me coming and going.
He also likes the sound of the sewing machine and will try to lie as close as he can when I'm sewing. Sometimes so close that he's on top of the foot control and my sewing machine will start going full speed ahead!

I have Max a PBGV he is a wonderful compainion and an awesome quilting dog, he lays on a bench under the window and looks out or curls up in the corner and sleeps. I also have Maggie and Winston
sister and brother, black and liver dalmations. They are awesome companions but are much more into gardening that sewing, actually they are more into comedy than anything else and keep us in stitches, we lost Scarlett half great dane and half black lab she was almost 15 and had cancer. She was the best I swear she would talk to me, she loved to sew, quilt, and garden.

My baby is Sasha, I adopted her from the pound when she was 8 weeks old. I think she is part Border Collie and maybe ChowChow mix, which makes her too smart for her own good. I miss her when I'm at work and can't wait til I get home. She doesn't play like she used too now that she's 8 years old but she is the best company anyone can ask for....She loves to go to the bank with me just so that she can get a treat from the ladies at the drive thru. She's just happy to go any where. I could just drive around the block and she would be happy. Oh I could go on for days about my baby but I won't bore ya'll.

I love any dog, big, small any kind. I've had so many different breads. I would have to say the ones that took my heart were, my Golden she was 9 when she passed, my Irish Wolfhound she was only 5 I would love another however a dog that large just doesn't have the lifespan and that just broke my heart, and my English bulldog precious she was a shelter dog and was with me for 14 years. Oh she had and attitude but that's what made her so special. I now have 3 mixed bread and I love them all along with my two tortoises, two lovebirds, 1 cat and a ginny pig.

I love all of the stories and posts about your furkids. Over the yrs we have always had a dog of some breed. 8 yrs ago we got our 1st Alaskan malamute "Spookie". He was the most gentle soul I ever encountered but his size would spook anyone away. He had a rare intestinal disease and didn't live but to be 3 yrs. About did me in. 4 yrs ago for Valentine's day we bought Dillon another Malamute. He is the love of my life I think. So intuitive and attentative but also so huge! He weighs 125 and is about 29" tall at the withers. We also have his niece Sascha (93 lbs) that is 3 yrs old and she is so comical and always smiling. Yes, these dogs actutally do smile. They have personalities like no other and you can almost read their minds. They are the best. We also have a 12 yr mini schnauzer that was to be our youngest daughter's, but she didn't want to move Kelsey around & didn't really have time for her. Her nickname which fits her to a tee is "Miss Weaser" from Steele Magnolia's. Crotchety old gal but we make her as comfy as we can in her older yrs. She is healthy as a little horse at 13 lbs. Dillon would love to be her buddy but she hates other animals. He cautiously comes up to her wanting to kiss her, while blinking his eyes because he knows the little witch will snap at him. But he keeps on trying to give her a smooch. LOL He is quite a boy. Sorry this is soooo long. But they are my furkids! And I love them to the moon & back.

Oh, to have an English bulldog for 14 years. You were so lucky. I will be happy if I can make it to 10 years. Their average life span is 8 years. My boxers lasted a long time. They are really my breed of choice, but they are too powerful for me now. They runners, the bulls are spinters. I can keep up a little more with them.
My Lydia does get an attitude from time to time. When she wants to get going on rough play she is a handful, but I noticed that once she turned 2 she has mellowed a little and her wild times are further apart and don't last as long.
I never had a pet I didn't love (alright, I wasn't crazy about the bird my son had, it was meaner than any dog we had), and I cherish the memories of all of them.

I totally understand Cathy. Our furkids are our buddies, our loves, our companions, our entertainment, and sometimes a pest, but always our conditional friends.

Re: Quilters Dogs
Really, besides their occassional required vaccines, a bowl of whatever you want to feed them daily and water and a few pats is all that they really require and they give us back sooooo much more than that. Of course our dogs ALL get the best I am sure. But a pet gives and gives of themselves so much more so, than some hoomans. I go way overboard I know in making sure Dillon & Sascha & Miss Weaser know that they are my world daily. Our Vet of 20 yrs says in his next life, he wants to be a pet of ours. LOL

Re: Quilters Dogs
At the same time we got Cassie as a pup, we also got a kitten (well, we had 2, but that's a long story), and so they were raised together. Still get to see the dog chase the cat, the cat chase the dog, etc. The cat cries when she comes in until Cassie "plays" with her - chomping on her gently - then the cat comes up on my lap and is all slimed!
