Signing a quilt
Hi to all my quilting friends. I have another question. Can someone tell me a easy way to sign a quilt? I have seen labels sewed on. Do you just attach the label to the back of the quilt after it is completed?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Re: Signing a quilt
I just did my first label and this is how I did mine. I am sure the more experienced quilters have better ways. I just took a piece of muslin and "framed" it with my binding fabric. Then I printed out what I wanted the label to say in bold print. I then put my piece of muslin over the top of the paper and "traced" the info on with a permanent black pen that is for fabric. The info I included was
Hand-pieced by.....(my grandmothers full name including maiden name)
Date pieced - unknown
Her birth and death date (so you could figure it was done sometime between those dates)
Hand quilted by ....my name
2007 - First Quilt (because it was my first)
Then I just slip stitched it at an angle in one corner of the back of the quilt. I think it looks pretty cool!

That's what I do. I usually make a label to match the quilt, then write on it with a permanent pen/marker. The attatch to back of the quilt. Make sure you include you name, date and any other info you people to know about the quilt.

I make labels to match the quilt and then write on it with a permanant marker, I think embrodery would be better but I don't have that capability yet, I also sign my name on the quilt in the lower right hand corner, I do it with freemotion quilting, I always know it is there and most folks have to look but a label can be removed, I also put pockets on the back of my quilt, the always match the backing and end up a little larger than 5x7, I make it so in can close and that way if the quilt is a gift you can put, who to and who from, when, where, why, how to care for the quilt, how it was made, the name of the pattern, who commission it etc, I usually recommend that that information be lamanated then 50 years from now it is there

I use computer printer fabric and an art program I have on my comuter and add a border to match the fabric. Add the name of the quilt, date, who it was made for etc. and sew on the quilt. Works great.

Re: Signing a quilt
Hi,
I love seeing other people's quilt labels, gives me lot's of ideas.
I mainly make mine by using the fabric computer paper. I use the graphics on my computer, making a border and using pictures that go with the quilt. I type in the name of the quilt, when I completed it, who it was made for and the occassion.
