Oil or not to oil

Post by amp123 » Tue Jun 26, 2007 2:40 am

I have a sewing/embroidery machine, and the question that I have is whether or not to oil this machine and where? I have looked in the book, but it just says to keep things clean. I have heard that a computerized machine shouldn't be oiled, so I am asking the forum for advice. Kind of new at this type of machine. So any info would be appreciated. Thanks. I really enjoy this forum. Alot of good info.

Never Never Never oil a computerized machine. They have a teflon based lubricant in them. Oiling will gum up the works, frustrate your tech and cost you a bundle.

DO NOT OIL. The new machines are not to be oiled. Remember we have computers in there. I have 2 Vikings - a #1 and a Designer 1. If you any addition questions call you dealer, but don't put a drop any where until you get the OFFICIAL word to do so.

When you have it serviced/in for its check up, the tech will put more lubricant in, I do believe, but it's not oil or petroleum based.

I have a 20 year old Singer,no computerized stuff, and it came with a booklet that said no need to oil. This was odd to me,and bothered me, but I have never oiled it and it still runs like a top.Wish I could do that with our CAR!!!!!

I have a Bernina 440QE and at the club meeting last Saturday the class was given on care of your machine. Keith said to oil the "race" where the bobbin goes with one drop of a gel oil about every 8 hours of sewing. That is the only place he told us to oil.

I have a Janome 9000 and have never oiled it, just take it in for its "thousand mile" check up on a regular basis and they oil it then.
I think it depends on the machine, and the best advice is talk to a good dealer or the company's website. Carol
