SUPPER CLUB - Monday, February 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Mon Feb 05, 2024 4:01 am

Good morning,

Our last week here in Austin. We leave for home next Sunday. We intend to soak up all the baby fun we can this week. It has to last us a while. Kids say they'll facetime, Zoom, or talk weekly, but life gets busy for all of us.

We had a day off yesterday so I did make that big pot of chili and let it simmer all day in the crockpot. It smelled so good. Then we cleaned the trailer, took morning and afternoon walks, and I finished putting Fab Farm together. All my sewing is now packed away for travel. I made cornbread to go with the chili and after supper gave myself a manicure and fell asleep in front of the TV. It was an energetic day. But after a good night's sleep, I'm ready to chase a baby today!

MARY Q - welcome to the table! So glad you joined us for supper! Although, Carol is right - there are two rules to supper club - #1: we never ever mention the F-word. It's "mac & cheese". #2: We don't break rule #1. And what a windfall of fabric you received! You deserve it! Is it over now or is there more to come? And the history of Supper Club - Caron (mastiffmom) started it back at the beginning of the forum. For supper ideas, cooking tips, and, well, chit chat. She left the forum so some of us have just kept coming back. A member we called "Lady Carol" of England was here for a year or two and she named it Supper Club. She and her DH, "Sir", love camping and had an RV, though in the UK it's called a caravan. They went out often with their caravan club and she shared camping dishes. And we're so happy you've stopped by the table and hope you keep coming back!

CAROL - you really put a lot of work into that tablerunner. We would love to see a photo when it's all finished! How did you like the lecture by Liz Cheney the other night? I like her. Bill would be happy at your house with all your delicious soups. He loves homemade soup of almost every kind.

BECCA - You'll get there with your quilt. I hurried with mine because I knew after yesterday I'd have very little time to sew. I guess I could Google Cornhole. Or maybe even ask Antonio. I see cornhole boards in their back yard. Was the tomato basil soup good? I've never made it from scratch, but I do combine a can of Campbell's tomato soup and a can of diced Italian tomatoes and sprinkle with basil. Bill loves that. I try to use the low sodium varieties soup and tomatoes.

TINA - you sound like you're feeling better. Just tired? Any other leftover symptoms from your Covid? This is a good time to sit, rest, and maybe study patterns. It takes some studying before cutting. I'd love you to make the Fab Farm. It's a fun project - about 75" square. You have the pattern, don't you? And who would it be for?

Today CHICKIE has a doctor appt that she has waited 5 months for. It took that long to get in to see this specialist. She is still suffering from her vertigo nearly all day long every day, though she says it's a little better lately. Almost 3-1/2 years this has been going on. None of her doctors so far have been able to figure it out. She also has a terrible time keeping her sodium level up. When Sodium goes down, it throws her other electrolytes off and then she has more problems. If you have a spare prayer today, sending it her way would be appreciated, I'm sure.

Tonite I think we'll take a page from Becca and Carol's menus and have soup. Probably tomato. With grilled cheese sandwiches. I might add lunch meat turkey to the sandwiches. We have an abundance. Bill put our grocery order in and when we picked it up, we found he accidentally ordered not only the giant package (20oz), but three of them! We've been eating a lot of turkey sandwiches. lol!!

What sounds tempting to you tonite?

Good morning all 🌞
Mary, another fun filled baby day for you! I bet you're a fun Gramma ❤️ I sure hope you get to FaceTime a lot because Amara will wonder where you two went all of a sudden, she's going to miss you like crazy!
I'm feeling better, just really tired and I get really shaky exhausted when I do things but I hope that doesn't last long. I still have a little bit of a cough left but hopefully the amount of water I drink will help that too.
I sure am praying 🙏 for Chickie and hope the Dr is very thorough and not a 15 minute appointment after her waiting so long and I pray he finds the problem and it's fixable 🙏
We're out of leftovers here so something needs to be made again but I'm not sure yet what. Dad gets his cancer shots tomorrow I think but he's still staying away just to make sure. We both tested negative again. Maybe there's something in the freezer to put on the grill. Soup is finally starting to sound good again to me, when I was so bad with covid it didn't sound good at all which I found weird because I love soup...... maybe it was because Frankie wanted me to have canned soup 🤷‍♀️

Wow.. two days in a row, I'm remembering to come over here! I'll try to stop by more often, tho between here and Sew In, if I sit too long to chat I won't get anything done! It takes me a while to get brain to think and then to type ...

Though maybe if I DO stop by more often I'll some better ideas of what to fix for supper. It's not a lot of fun to cook for one--though I admit I wasn't a fan of cooking for 5 people either. Some you know how I feel about vegetables (yuk) so I'm often surprised my kids grew up healthy as I fixed so few of them back in the day. And luckily their spouses have introduced them to new foods---like peas, and broccoli and asparagus---things never allowed in my house.

Since I too am on the low end of diabetic and have to watch those nasty carbs, I've learned to like some veggies, tho the above mentioned 3 are still not allowed, nor is cauliflower! SO bring on the lo carb ideas!!

Tonight may be chicken something. I did grab a jar of Alfredo sauce the other day, so maybe chicken alfredo with a tiny bit of noodles. Last night was popcorn shrimp (slightly over cooked) with a few tater tots ( can't give up potatoes completely) .

Will definitely send some prayers for Chickie today.. Seems such a crime that a person has to wait 5 months to get into the Dr.!

Tina... Hope you are feeling a little better every day! Did every thing taste funny when you had the Covid? I swear I had Covid long before 2020 when I had pneumonia back in Aug. of 2019---everything tasted so bad I couldn't eat---and that's really rare for me !!!

Maryz... See you over in Sew IN!

I'm going to run over to Sew in for my daily check in, but I'll try to get back here tomorrow!

Good Morning,

It rained all night here last night (just as predicted). It kept me from going to sleep but once I did I was fine. Yesterday I decided to pull out my fabric and see what I really have. I know there are some fabrics in project bags for projects, but now I know I have only two tubs of yardage fabrics, More fat quarters than I thought I had and about two and a half tubs of scrap fabrics that need to be cut. I will be ironing and cutting for a while!!

Maryz and Tina - It really wasn't that much work. The table runner is three 12-inch bow tie blocks in red and white. There are four bow tie blocks in each 12-inch square so the whites meet in the middle. I had only hand quilted the white centers.

Maryz - Prayers for Chickie for sure today. I miss her descriptions of sunsets. I see a beautiful sunset and think of her. Glad your space is all clean and you are ready for another week with Amara. Will you get together next Saturday for one last visit?

Maryz - I am so glad you are posting here. I enjoy your posts. I am pre-diabetic as well and use exercise and the Mediterranean diet to hold it at bay. I also take Metamuscil. My A1C went out of pre-diabetic range, but I do have to watch my blood glucose levels.

Tina - Just rest and you will get your strength back. Remember you were sick. Hope your Dad's cancer treatment goes well.

Lori - So sorry about Jonathan's dog. You have had your share of sadness lately. I am sorry you are going through all of this.

Becca - I really like Tomato Basil Soup. I hope yours was delicious! I need to go to the gym this morning. I have an eye appointment this afternoon.

Dinner tonight will be a repeat of last night's feast. I don't think we will have ice cream though. It was home-made ice cream. For Christmas we got a small one-cup ice cream maker. I made vanilla ice cream. So, it will be Garden Vegetable Soup this evening. A friend suggested cooking quinoa separately and adding it to the soup when serving. I will try that this evening.

Carol, I would love to see this table runner. You've put a lot of work into it.

So sorry to hear Chickie has been dealing with this for so long. I sure hope the specialist can figure it out.

Maryq, good to see you at the table. Chicken Alfredo sounds delicious.

Tina, canned soup is yucky. DH eats and a lot for lunch, even when there is fresh soup in the fridge. He forgets.

Becca, I bet it's nice to get out a bit. 50's is doable.

It's been raining since yesterday afternoon. Jack gave me the oh so sad pitiful look this morning. He knows we don't walk in the rain. I'm hoping it will clear up by tomorrow. We were able to get to the park yesterday morning before it rained.

I worked on a lotto block this morning. It's pretty easy, just a lot of steps. And the directions have an error.
I have 4 more cut out and will sew them this afternoon. I definitely don't want to go anywhere. I will go check on my dad in a bit though. I talked to him this morning. He's always confused when he gets up.

Dinner will be chili and maybe corn bread.

Have a lovely day.
Lori 8-)
