It's going to be a nice few days here - in the 70's! Good grilling weather! And clothesline weather. So I'm going to make use of the sunshine while we have it because by Monday, it will be gone again. My brother in North Pole texted this morning that he has snow - again. And this time it looks like it's going to stay until next April.
Yesterday I finished one unicorn block. Of course, I made my usual mistakes so I'll be frogging this morning. But only 3 more to go. I should just gather up all my Eliz Hartman patterns and have a bonfire as I get overconfident and keep making mistakes. But they are so darn cute! I want to make them all!
I also took lunch to my friend, Carol. All her family are either in NY this week or Europe. Her sister is in Seattle taking care of their dad who had dementia now, and her SIL, who lives local, just went on Hospice. So she has another friend she is paying to come and stay with her most of the time. Carol isn't getting around at all yet, but lays on couch with leg elevated. To get to the bathroom she uses a walker and hops but that's it. I took her lunch, fed the cat, took the dog out, and visited a while. I had a hunch I was the highlight of her day. I will keep checking on her.
Today's plan is unicorn play! I got one more 'assignment' for Christmas - to make a single narwhal block. It's from the North Stars pattern (another E.H. pattern.) I made the entire quilt last winter and I'm leaning on it right now as I sit on the couch, typing this. Apparently, the husband of the gal who is receiving the Lemur quilt doesn't believe narwhals exist. They've had an ongoing debate about this for some time. So to prove they do exist (yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus) I'm to make a couch cushion with a narwhal block to go with the Lemur quilt. For Christmas. This couple has been a godsend to A&A during this past year, plus passed on a lot of baby furniture. We've met them and really like them. So I'm happy to sew for them. (actually, I'm happy to sew for anyone, just so I can sew!) And I'm sure my block will stop the debate!

CAROL - You and I think alike. The mat/bag they include with the set sure doesn't hold all the pieces (about 83!) which is why I made a second small tote to hold it all together. We are holding ours back until next Christmas. I saw the matching fabric to "our" set in the Connecting Threads catalog just this morning. I just froze 2 pkgs of spaghetti sauce. It will be delicious for some quick meals in the future - or in the trailer while on the road to Texas.
BECCA - I love that your family has a nice family dinner every week. Is it always at the same house? Hard to find quality hams sometimes. Sounds like she got a good one! Your activity level is inspiring for sure! And yes, my dear, you do inspire me in many ways! I'm adding more steps to my daily walk because of you and my walking buddy is happy for it, too. I like the idea of the squats, etc contest you've signed up for. Keeps you going!
TINA - I never heard of Fall break before. Though maybe there's one here now. We noticed a few days of low traffic volume on the road for our morning walks last week. Our kids here get winter breaks now too. about 4 weeks after they go back from Christmas break. It's new since my kids went. I do have one more small project (as of yesterday). The narwhal block. I'll make the cushion cover but buy the pillow form when we get to TX. Did you make any progress on YOUR projects yesterday? Are you planning any other Christmas sewing besides the five quilts?
We never did decide on supper last night so at 4pm we went rooting in the freezer and found a frozen mac & cheese from a long time ago. Decided we better eat it up. It was still very tasty! Tonite we're grilling a steak to share, having tater tots, and a salad.
What's going on your table tonite?
