SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Aug 29th

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Aug 29, 2023 6:53 am

Good morning,

We woke up to 59* and drippy skies. Going to be another gloomy day today. And I'm glad of it! We need any drops of rain we can get. We're only going to about 69* for a high. I may need to find longer pants. I've been in shorts for 3 months. We have a little rooster next door just learning to crow. They sound so funny when their voice is changing. 🐓

Yesterday was all about cutting fabrics for Book Nook. Today I'll finish that up and maybe even get a few blocks sewn. But first we have to make a big grocery run, then putting it all away, and making a marinade for a flank steak for company tomorrow night.

TINA - you are busy, busy! You have a lot of sewing on your plate. How many do you need to finish by Christmas? Book Nook is/was for Autumn. But I told her about it because it would make a great gift for her boss (library director) who is retiring next year. So Aut is thinking about it. In the meantime, I'll just keep sewing and hold off on labeling. But when my unicorn and lemur patterns (both Elizabeth Hartman) arrive, everything else will be set aside. Those two are Christmas gifts and must be finished by end of Oct. Your pasta dish was much like what we had the last two nights. Delicious!

LORI - I hope today is cooler for you. What do you use to mark your stencil patterns? Chalk pencils? And actually none of the six quilts on my list are for Amara. The unicorn is actually for her Daddy, though I'm betting Amara will see more use from it than he will. It's a family joke sort of. We've designated pink unicorns as his "spirit animal" ever since he dressed up as a pink unicorn for a kids party at Aut's library.

BECCA - I'm sorry that Gabe will have to wear hearing aides all his life, but so thankful that there are hearing aides for him! What are you embroidering on your towels? I love your tradition of keeping your handmade gifts for small occasions as they come up.

I'm not planning supper for tonite. It's $12 pizza night at Papa Murphy's (or is it Papa John's?) and Bill mentioned that, so I'm holding him to it.

What's your plan?

Mary, that's funny. I thought for sure the Unicorn quilt was for Amara. For marking I use clover chalk marker, Pounce, Fraxion pens, or water soluble pens. Hardest part about marking is going from dark to light fabrics. I think I'll be able to use the Pounce for the border. That will definitely be faster.

Becca, I so wish I had a pool. We considered putting one in years ago, but we like the big yard for our dogs. And in our house, it's all about the dogs and cats comfort.

I made my for pumpkin blocks yesterday, and also traced some spooky houses. Maybe I'll actually finish up the fall quilt today. I want to take my Bernina in for service after that. I have a retreat in October, I want it to be refreshed and ready to sew.

It will be a late lunch today.

Have a lovely day.

Mary, you asked what kind of quilting I'm doing on the fall braid. I took a picture of part of the back.

Good late afternoon,

It was quite warm here today. I spent the morning and early afternoon at Disneyland. It wasn't crowded. I had the best time! I spent very little time standing in lines. When I left the parking lot at 1:38 PM it was 100 degrees, when I got home it was 84 degrees (about 1 hour later).

I am working on getting ready to quilt several quilts. I still need to baste a couple of them, but also waiting for a delivery of thread.

Maryz - That was quite an order for quilts! I was thinking Book Nook would be a wonderful retirement quilt for Autumn's boss. Hope that works out!

Lori - You're doing great on the quilt! I like your spooky houses. I do not want to make it. I have more than enough right now.

Becca - It is so nice that you embroider a scripture saying with flowers and greens around the words. It gives you focus as you sew.

DH went to a meeting tonight so he is eating out. I think I will have a little Farro and Barley Salad and a Peach.

Tomorrow the weather is to cool down. The house is very warm and we will run the AC in the bedroom tonight.

Hi all!
I'm late LOL maybe I should change my name to that.
Mary, the kids quilts will all be from Christmas swap blocks so the hard part is done, I just need to assemble and quilt. 3 twin and 1 queen and I'm not sure yet for Elijah, his may be a regular baby quilt but bigger. Can you imagine that I haven't made him one yet, bad Gramma.
Lori, love how you're quilting your braid quilt. I mark mine with something that's water soluble and has pink and blue refill things LOL I can't remember what they're called but I really like them. They're kinda the same set up as a mechanical pencil, click it to feed it out.
Becca, your embroidered gifts sound very special ❤ you are so sweet. Blueberry pancakes, yummy.
Carol, sounds like a fun time at Disneyland, I'd prefer cooler temps though.
We had pizza at pizza night. We had to wait 1 hour and 10 minutes for our pizza and all they have to sit in is folding chairs. I had to get up about 5 times because the chairs cause me horrible pain in my leg and sciatic. I was ready to come home when we left, I was trying not to cry. Pizza was yummy 🤤 we brought a piece of cake home and split it, it was chocolate with chocolate icing, it was pretty good and not a huge piece by splitting it.
Well it's 11, gotta get ready for bed and take some ibuprofen.
Night.
Tina
