SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, July 29th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Jul 29, 2023 6:42 am

Good morning,

I can't believe July is almost over. Where is the time going?? When I was a kid, summers seemed endless!

Yesterday was a long round of errands from 10am to 2pm by the time I was done putting all the Costco booty away. Then I prepped supper which left me an hour or so to play in my room where I got one cat finished. Sort of my practice cat to figure out the pattern. I think I've got it, though all the cats are a bit different. Today - more cats, laundry, and maybe some vacuuming. We treated all the rugs and floors with boric acid powder for flea/bug control 2 weeks ago. It has to remain for 2 weeks through the flea reproductive cycle and that is up today! Yay! We treated when we put down the carpets 9 years ago so this stuff lasts a long time. Boric acid is the active ingredient in FleaBusters powder but it's 20% of the cost. And even though our pets get treated every month with the best flea meds out there, fleas can still come in on their coats - and hop on US! So now you know our dirty little secret - we have fleas! Or we did have, anyway.

Y'all know I'm a big audiobook listener. But my app, Libby, was being updated yesterday and everything went FUBAR for almost everyone using it across the nation (according to our library). I'm crossing my fingers that they have it fixed today. Didn't realize just how addicted to my "stories" I am. No reading while sewing, cooking, walking, cleaning, etc.

BECCA - I hope you at least enjoyed the social aspect of the painting class. After all, you all share an interest in painting, even if you are more advanced. My uncle loved to paint and would have loved sharing those classes with you. Sounds like your baby quilt is really coming along. You'll have it finished in plenty of time.

IRISH - 17 is young to be married, but when you know - you know! I was engaged at 18 and married at 19. (and I was older than he was!). But if he'd lived I know we'd still be happily married today - 52 years. My DD, Lara, was married at 18 and even I knew she was marrying the love of her life. They've been married for 32 years now and even more in love with each other! That painter was Bob Ross and was known for his "happy litte trees". He made it all look so easy. I still have a set of paints and a book. I did one painting and gave it up for quilting. He had quite a storied past before he settled into his painting career.

LORI - happy anniversary! How many? And where did you go to eat?

CAROL - it's always a great idea to have a few meals ahead in the freezer for "those" days, isn't it. And I would love me some margherita pizza! And yes, I knew my niece was being spread very thin between working full time, caring for her DH who is getting home dialysis and waiting for a kidney transplant, her 84-yr old A--hole dad who is a major hoarder, has serious health problems, a verbal/emotional abuser, and is making her life beyond miserable, and then her much beloved dog died last week. It was time for something to go Marcie's way! :D

I'm kind of cleaning out the freezer so tonite we're having chicken/veggie spring rolls and salad.

What's your plan?

Good Morning!

Maryz - I feel for your niece. She has a lot on her plate. Glad you added an extra helping of feeling special for her! Yea for you getting down the boric acid. I worked for US Borax at one point and people would send in letters of their "new" use of killing insects with the product.

Irish - My sister married at 17 and is still married at 71 to the same man. It happens.

Becca - Bob Ross still has his TV shows airing on PBS stations and on Samsung Plus. I have watched his programs. I just have never painted. There are too many things to cook and sew.

I feel like all I have done this past week is run errands. I am trying to get this Mediterranean diet organized and it is taking a lot of time. No wonder why people don't want to change their eating habits! I did realize that after I got the recipes typed and organized, I still needed to make grocery lists of the ingredients. I am working on it.

I intend to make a salad today. I need to find one I have all the ingredients on hand. I think it will be a farro salad.

I also intend to sew today and get a walk in.

I just looked at recipes and am missing ingredients for farro salads. Instead I will make a Quinoa and Vegetable Salad. DH has some leftover Pizza and we have lots of Vegetable Soup.

Becca, sorry about the gout flair up. My son has gout and has to really watch what he eats.

Carol, It seems like errands take up a lot of our time.

Mary, sounds like a busy day yesterday. Glad you got a little sewing in. We've been married for 34 years, then add the 7 prior that we could decide whether or not to get married. lol

I went to the lqs and picked up a few pieces of fabric for a class I'll be taking at guild on the 9th. Need to do some pre sewing prior to the class. I had most of what I needed in my stash. I'm going to cut and sew the strips this afternoon. We went to a steak house last night and it was yummy. They had a warm butter cake that was outstanding.

Dinner will be leftovers.

Have a lovely day.

Lori - Congratulations on your anniversary! Glad you had an awesome dinner.

Dinner for us tonight is Lentil-Barley Vegetable Salad and a Sweet Kale Salad. The Lentil-Barley Vegetable Salad is really a warm salad. I am not sure why they call it a salad, perhaps a bowl would be a better description.
