SUPPER CLUB - Friday, February 17th

Post by purrfect-lady » Fri Feb 17, 2023 7:41 am

Good morning!

We have drizzle for a few hours this morning but will go back to just cloudy soon. Cooler temps coming next week with slight chance of snow on Wed. I could go for a few inches of snow!

Yesterday I got my North Stars quilt top all put together. Whew! That didn't take long, did it. Only about 2 months. I'll post a picture soon. I got most of my mess cleaned up. I will finish that today, do a few more house uglies, and maybe quilt a small quilt if we get it loaded this morning.

BECCA - congratulations on the pending sale of your house. But I'm sure it's bittersweet for you. A lot of good years in that home, but here's to a lot of good years in your new home! God bless!

CAROL - well, I can still hope you bring home 8 ribbons! Is your DH a vegetarian or did he just happen to get veggie lasagna? I'm not a vegetarian but I'm not a big meat eater either and I do like a lot of vegetarian dishes. Especially during Lent.

VELDA - I'm not sure what your quilter was meaning but, on the advice of a professional quilter, we always baste a scrap border on the side edges and bottom edge of our quilt tops. This gives a place for the side clamps that hold the quilt firmly in place and also for practice stitching while we make any adjustments to tensions, stitch length, etc. And it allows us to quilt all the way to the edges. Otherwise the clamps are in the way. Being basted, they aren't hard to remove later. But Pro Tip: if your borders (or quilt top if you don't use borders) have a lot of seams at the edge, top stitch all the way around the quilt 1/8" from edge before adding scrap borders or before quilting to keep your seams secure. For scrap borders I use old sheets cut into 3 or 4 inch strips. And I reuse them.

We were going to have pasta last night, but got called to the hospital for a friend about 4pm and didn't get home until after 7:30. We were tired and not so hungry so we just ate the salads that I'd fixed before we left. Tonite we're going to our local "Supper Club" for dinner. We are four couples who get together for supper about every 2 months and we take turns hosting. Host makes main dish and the other three bring appetizers, salads, dessert. The other 3 wives are in Bill's class at the "Y" which is how we've all gotten to know each other. It just happens that we are all Catholic and have lots of old Catholic school stories to share. Lots of laughing!

Anyhoo, I'm taking a salad tonite. All the other wives are EXCELLENT cooks so I always cross my fingers when I share my food because I'm not quite at the same level.

Have you got your menu squared away for tonite?

Mary, I thought you put that together pretty fast considering the difficulty of the pattern.
Lots of little pieces.

I have a mini retreat this week. Yesterday was our 1st day and will go through Sunday. Lots of laughing and talking.

Carol, does your quilt show start today?

Don't know what's for dinner. Probably pick something up.

Have a lovely day.

Good Morning,

Today is set up day for the quilt show. After using a lint roller and clipping a few threads I have folded and bagged my quilts, so they are ready to go. I will be leaving early. I need to be there at 3:30 PM. Dinner will be Pizza and Salad.

Maryz - So sorry you have lost another friend. (((Hugs))) and prayers. (DH is not vegetarian, it just sounded good.)

Lori - A mini retreat sounds like a nice way to spend the weekend. Is this one that you go home and sleep in your own bed?

Becca - I do not expect to win any ribbons. This is not a judged show, but people's choice. People tend to vote for their friends. Glad you found a place to take donations.

Good afternoon!

Mary - so sorry for your loss. It's always hard. Almost Kumquat time! I know I think it has been fast, but know you think the weeks are dragging! Love the Northstars quilt!

Carol - hope the show goes well - it sounds well planned! You need to stuff the ballot box on your quilts with all my votes! Your quilts are outstanding!

Becca - happy the house sold quickly. I thought of something that you might want to think about. There may something that you're not sure about keeping or needing, so I would suggest a small storage unit to hold things like that. Then at a later time after you've settled in, you can then see what to do with it then. Same with your car.

Lori - have a wonderful time on your retreat. You'll get lots done!

Home with Ethan. Sarah and her DH ad to go up to see his father. The father is not doing well at all. The Dr's prescribed dialysis for his failed kidneys, he says he doesn't need it. He now also, anemic and weighs 112 lbs. He's also diabetic and says no need to follow a special diet. He thinks he is just fine, in good health. So Sarah and her DH are trying to help out DH's mom, who's trying to handle everything. It's a royal mess! The father is on palliative care, but they gave up and called in hospice, who will probably not get anywhere either.

Back to sewing stars, dinner is orange chicken, rice and green beans.

Hugs,
Jana
