SUPPER CLUB - Tuesday, Nov 22nd

Post by purrfect-lady » Tue Nov 22, 2022 5:52 am

Good morning!

have my computer this morning! Hooray! Using the park wifi. It's been a good drive so far, and I-10 through west Texas is a good road. Not so much traffic as in years past. Fuel prices must be keeping all the smart people at home. Today's run will be less than 200 miles where we'll stay in a city park (for free!) on a river. In a big pecan grove. Along the Llano River. And the town decorates the park with tons of lights in the trees this time of year so there will be a pretty light show waiting for us. Businesses in the town each sponsor a tree and decorate it = or at least pay for the decorations. All this is why we cut the last 350 miles into two days - so we can enjoy this park.

To those who were worried we were freezing - we have plenty of propane. It was just our first (of three) tanks that ran out in the middle of the night. All that got cold was my nose. We just switched the valve and we were soon cookin' and baskin'! Bill could leave the valve open and the tanks would switch automatically, but then he has no way to tell when the tanks empty. Usually, when they run out, it's in the middle of cooking supper. lol!

CAROL - glad you are keeping that green quilt! It's lovely! And yes, I find when using blocks from different people 1/4" seams can differ. We've done quilting for one person in our local life (who isn't on this forum) whose seams range from a couple fraying threads to 1/2".

BECCA - you got a lot done to be home by 11:00! It does feel good. Maybe one of your family can bring your tree up for you this weekend, and after the holidays, is there some place you could store it so it wouldn't be downstairs? Or could you get a smaller one? I'm all for the biggest trees possible, but small is better than none.

LORI - yes, I think my embroidery will look a lot better with the fused backing. I saw a similar pattern yesterday on my phone for "Winter Wonderland". I like that even better! Wish I'd seen it first.

JANA - I'm sure you were busy cooking something tasty yesterday. Has Thanksgiving figured itself out at your house yet? :D

TINA - how is Dad's dental work? Will he be able to eat some turkey?

We didn't eat our spaghetti last night after all. It seemed too heavy a meal when all we're doing is sitting all afternoon. So we had a can of minestrone soup. I added extra broth and some orzo and it was pretty good. I would love to have added some more kidney beans, too, but then we'd have been caught in that leftover trap - leftovers from leftovers. We might have the spaghetti tonite for early supper since it will be a short day, and we'll skip lunch.

How about you?

Good morning everyone!
Carol, I'm with Lori... being president is a huge undertaking and a finished quilt should be given at the end of the 2 year term. You did an amazing job through covid with all the zoom and extras you did ❤ we weren't even there but we know you did an excellent job! ❤❤
Mary, oh you have 3 tanks....I was thinking 2. I'd rather run out cooking than in the middle of the night. I wouldn't have been able to sleep in that cold of temps inside.
Your campground tonight sounds amazing! Maybe you can take some pics? We'd love to see.
Dad's dental is ok now. He doesn't have 7 teeth but that doesn't stop him from eating turkey, or steak, tacos LOL anything that dosen't eat him first. I think he's afraid to end up like Mom, she ended up malnourished and wasted away so he's jolly and plump like a Santa, lots of padding. I'm sure it's not that healthy but neither is the other end and I don't say anything neither does his doctors.
Becca, my parents went with a little tree after awhile of being on their own, it was too much for them to do the big tree and they had moved away from all of us so it was difficult to just pop over.
Lori, I've noticed my dad getting turned around and confused a little lately but not too bad, I think it's normal as we age cause we've got so much up there to keep track of after so many years ❤❤ my dad will be 84 in January.
Well Kevin just text me, they're coming over for a visit today without the busyness of Thanksgiving. I'm loving that idea! It's kinda hard to visit much on Thanksgiving and cook cook cook too. Plus they spend part of the time driving. So I'm not sure about supper because we may have a big lunch.
Oh Frankie's dr said his cholesterol is a little high but nothing to worry about but he is prediabetic so he has to cut down on sugar... he eats a lot of sugar each day. He only weighs 140 at the most but if he doesn't snack at 10, 3 and 8 he gets sick and those snacks are junk food, sugary sweet stuff and believe it or not a specialist 35 years ago told him to eat all that junk because he only weighed 120 pounds at 30 years old and he would get so sick and dizzy if he didn't have a junk food snack, he was hypoglycemic. He also has a honey bun or something like that for breakfast every morning, he puts 2 teaspoons of sugar in each cup of coffee each morning, he drinks tea with sugar, so it should be easy to cut out a lot of sugar for him if he just makes healthier choices. I don't have any added sugar in anything I eat or drink and haven't for years, it doesn't seem to help me lose weight but at least I know I'm not putting tons of sugar in me daily.
Enjoy your day!

Hello everyone Well another busy one here
After lunch I went outside and got up leaves 8 trash cans full packed tight I was ashamed for anyone to see it before It looked like no one cared & that bothers me
Tina It’s hard I know because CA & Denise are both like that Denise eats nuts to get her protein back or drinks OJ She used to pass out a lot Glad Dad can eat
Carol I agree seems they would have made a whole quilt for all your work you did to keep it afloat in hard challenging times
Maryz The Park sounds festive & fun I too would want to stay longer Glad everyone stayed warm I too am so cold natured like Tina

Also got laundry done Potatoe soup made & had lunch. Had 2 calls concerning CAs oxygen & still haven’t got them here to take care of it The Co Hospice uses doesn’t know what service is Sorry but it’s so uncalled for when the sick is involved
As I said potatoe soup was the dish we had Tomorrow & Friday will be my busiest days

Good Evening Everyone,

Today I have worked on row three (of five) of my quilt. Also resewing some blocks.

Tonight's dinner will be Chicken Pot Pies, Oven French Fries and Broccoli.

Maryz - I remember you stopping at that park last year. I think you posted pictures. It sounds like a very pretty place, and you get to go grocery shopping!

Becca - Sorry you are having oxygen tank troubles with the company. All companies should treat people better. It is so nice to know your family is coming for Thanksgiving. Don't work too hard cleaning up. Your kids will think you can handle it by yourself!

Tina - Stevia is a great substitute for sugar in my tea. Your Dad sounds like he is eating in self-defense. Good for him.

Dinner is in the oven, so take care everyone!

Carol

Tina, I don't eat a lot of sugar either. I use Monk fruit if I want to sweeten my tea, but just a little.

Mary, I bet you will be glad to stop and stay somewhere for a while. I knew Bill would be prepared and not let you freeze.

Carol, I would love to see your quilt when it's done.

We had a late lunch, so no dinner tonight.

Have a lovely evening.

Lori 8-)

Lori - As I am finishing a 12" square, I am sewing them together. I have three rows finished and the fourth one about halfway finished. That is enough for tonight though. I will work more tomorrow.
