SUPPER CLUB - Sunday, Nov 6th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sun Nov 06, 2022 5:15 am

Good morning,

I was wide awake at 3am this morning. Of course, the boys expected their breakfast. I made them wait an hour. We have to ease them into this time change thing. lol! it's absolutely pouring rain outside. This should bring down the last of the leaves anyway. We picked up loads and loads of them yesterday with the tractor. We also got our new mailbox post planted and house numbers up. No mailbox though as we don't receive mail at the house any longer. We ordered a new name sign and are hoping it arrives in the next few days so we can get that added to our post. I didn't do much sewing yesterday but I did get all my pattern traced for my Over the River project.

Today I'm going to make a pumpkin cheesecake to take to a dinner party tomorrow with Bill's "Y" exercise friends. Four couples who have been getting together about every other month for a few years now. It's our second Supper Club. But you guys will always be my first! Our afternoon will be spent in front of the fire, watching the Seahawks hopefully win against Arizona Cardinals. Fingers crossed. And washing the dirties.

CAROL - that is quite a serious complication to shingles! It is so painful. It's an expensive vaccine but so worth it. We got the single dose many years ago, which, we were told, gave about 65% protection, but then when they came out with the double dose, we got that, too. Neither of us had a reaction to any of the shots. Glad you figured out your borders! I love when a plan finally falls into place. We'll be waiting for pictures!

TINA - You have a lot of birthdays this week! Happy birthday to everyone! Yes, I do think my beans were old, if 1 or maybe even 2 years is old for a bean. I talked to my sis and she was having the same problem. Then we remembered that we bought a big bag of dry pinto beans at Costco and split it. I'm tossing the rest of them out. I've also heard that salting your beans as they soak can make them hard. Also that NOT salting them can make them hard. I'm thinking the salt doesn't matter one way or another. I'm glad you're feeling better.

BECCA - actually we have two BP cuffs. (And an oximeter and a stethoscope). We've been taking our BP daily with both cuffs just to compare, and then on Friday the doctor took our BP's with her cuff and with our new one. It looks like the new cuff is reading about 10 points higher so. on Dr. Flagg's advice, we're sending it back to the company to be calibrated. Nice to know our readings were lower than we were thinking! And I agree with you - most of my thinking is done at night - hence a lot of sleepless nights! But I get a lot of thinking done!

JANA - maybe Michael has too many chairs and he's tripping over them! lol! We do have to make a few concessions to age. Changes can take place in the middle ear along about 60 yrs old that can put us a little off balance. I am so careful on stairs now, always using the hand rail, and I rarely wear clogs or Crocs because they can make me trip. It's really nice that you all are getting together for Scott's birthday. Your family is a true blessing to Sandee! I've never heard of a teacher telling students if they have a question to ask other students. That's her job!! And Bill just asked how does the teacher know other students will have the correct answer! For sure she shouldn't get her contract or even her teaching credentials renewed! I hope all the parents are filing complaints. I'll file one, too, if you want me to.

LORI - thanks for all the tips. I've got my Pellon ordered and it should be here by Tuesday. And next beans I soak I'll try your method. Though I usually use the quick soak - boil two minute, let soak an hour, and then into the crockpot they go. I think my beans (pinto) were old. My sister was cooking some from same bag (we shared) and she had the same problem. I'm tossing out what's left.

Tonite we are having chicken. I think I'll just cut it into "fingers", season, and bake it. We have a giant bag of Tater Tots from Costco and we need to eat it down so it will fit into the trailer freezer, so 'Tots and a salad will complete our supper.

What's happening on your plate tonite?[/color

Good morning everyone!
My favorite time zone; God's time I call it 🥰
I love this time, it's so much easier on the kids, adults can adjust their hours, stores can adjust their hours but kids have to do what they're told. This time let's them rest better, I say if they're going to get rid of a time it should be the DLS time that just ended, more health issues are caused by changing to DLS timings than this time.... it stresses people and their systems out but not God's time. There I've said my peace. 😊
Mary, I don't soak my beans but then again I just cook them on the stove. Here pinto beans can go bad fast.... maybe it's the heat? Altitude? No idea what but I'm afraid if I boil them for 2 minutes and let them soak after they'd go bad, they sour.
Yay, you're getting rain!
Wow you got alllll that tracing done in 1 day?! Wowzers!
Pumpkin cheesecake sounds yummy!
Jana, that teacher isn't doing her job for sure, that's just wrong and she shouldn't even get to finish out the year, she's doing those kids a terrible injustice by not teaching them it's good to ask questions and her be the one to answer the questions to make sure they get the correct answer. I think she's in the wrong line of work!
The party was fun and Easton was so happy! He had 3 friends from school go and they were so fun 😊 I even bowled! I hadn't bowled in 45 years probably and I even made a strike and several spares! I had fun! 😊 I thought my arm and shoulder would be sore this morning but nope I'm all good 😊 The only bummer was I wouldn't hold Elijah, I don't think I'm still contagious but I didn't want to chance it. Jazmyne held him most of the night, she cradled him and danced and danced, that girl has music in her soul. Matthew does too, he'd send his ball down the alley and then he'd dance till it came back through the ball feed thingy LOL
Hmmmmmm maybe I'll make chicken strips too, I haven't made them for awhile. I have a recipe that I use crushed Ritz crackers in the breading and they are sooooo yummy! Thanks for the idea Mary 🥰

Tina, I would love to just have one time all the time. I don't even care which one it is.
Switching back and forth is ridiculous. You get the same amount of daylight either way. Sounds like Easton's party was a success.

Mary, when I buy beans, I put them into 1 quart mason jars. They last years and I've never had a problem with any kind of bean. Some I've kept for 5 years. Good thing you got the post in the ground before the rain. Our animals don't understand the time change again. I just keep all the curtains closed so they don't know it's light yet. Dinner might not go as well. It usually takes about a week to get into the new routine.

Becca, I looked it up, and the Mediterranean diet just sounds like a common sense diet. There's a lot to be said for eating healthy. Unfortunately, we have access to so many bad foods that are easier to grab and eat.

I've been quilting the Wooded Whimsy. About 1/2 done. I needed a break. I'm going to get it done today, then get the binding on. I still need to sew down the Elephant binding too.

Dinner will be leftovers or pizza. I'll let the guys decide.

Have a lovely evening.

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a great day. The pillow I have been working on is now just needing the binding sewn on the back with one side completed. Sometimes I get stuck because I need to figure out how to do something.
I had quilted it and then I made the back of the pillow with a zipper. The instructions were not step-by-step, and I had to figure out how to get the back onto the front. Today I also worked on the borders for my green and white quilt. I will need to square up the quilt before sewing the border onto the quilt and I need to sew down the shamrock. AccuQuilt does have an embroidery for it and this week there is a seminar. Maybe the seminar will answer my questions. Progress is a very good thing!!

I use kidney beans in my chili and last week DH asked me to make it with pinto beans. I have always used canned but when I make Ham and Bean Soup, I buy dry. I only use a couple cans of beans so maybe it is a good thing I use canned for the chili. With the Soup I usually use Great Northern White Beans. I soak overnight.

It is getting late so I will answer tomorrow.

Carol
