SUPPER CLUB - Saturday, March 5th

Post by purrfect-lady » Sat Mar 05, 2022 6:42 am

Good morning!

No rain today or tomorrow! Hooray!! Though the ducks swimming on the back lawn won't be happy to hear that news! lol! :ugeek: :ugeek:

Yesterday I made 3 sample blocks of my new project. All went well, so I got most of the cutting done yesterday. I'm ready to go today! But I'll break up the sewing with a few little things like cleaning bathrooms, washing clothes, dusting furniture. Bill is nearly half finished with my TN Waltz so I made the binding for that. When he's done with the quilting (probably tomorrow or Monday), I'll stop what I'm doing and get TW bound and labeled so it's ready to go when I need it later this month. The weather is supposed to be nice all weekend long - dry and 55* - so we might do some outside stuff - wash vehicles, flower pots, etc.

VELDA - congrats on figuring out the blue tooth stuff. It really is beyond me, but not Bill. When traveling we listen to audio books that I download from the library to my cell phone. I can hook it all up in the truck, but only because he has already SET it all up. I listen to audio books on my phone all day long while I sew, garden, clean, cook, etc. But I do have to shut it off and minimize the book when calls, texts, or e-mails come in.

MARY ROSE - I hope you found something delicious for your supper last night. My go-to on nights like that is poached eggs on toast. If I'm feeling fancy I open a jar of chili con queso cheese sauce and pour some over the eggs.

JANA - so nice that all your family lives close enought to borrow from each other! And that you all remember when it came from! I had one of those electric knives from the same era as yours. Loaned it to Lara. Never saw it again. She gave it to Goodwill when she was done with it. Grrrr.... As to water heaters, we have the traditional electric heater that takes up a good chunk of my little laundry cubby. Bill really likes the tankless water heaters and next time we have to replace, he's going to look long and hard at tankless. It would be so nice to be able to put a storage shelf or cabinet in that spot. We went to Europe for 6 weeks in 2003 and a lot of places there had tankless and they worked really well. But as far as actual facts about them vs tradtional, I know nothing.

Last night we were going to have chicken fajitas, but got an impromptu invitation to go to our friends for wine and pinwheel sandwiches. (same friend I'm making my North Star quilt for). So that's what we did and when we got home, just had a piece of apple pie for dessert. So tonite will be the fajitas. Unless we get another 'better offer'.

And what's going on in your kitchen tonite?

We'll take some rain down south.

Mary, glad you get a few days to dry out. It's only 58 here and a very cold wind blowing. Staying in sewing.

Finished up a lap quilt top. Using the bits left over for an accent on the back. It's a cute pattern I might do again.

Dinner will be soup and corn bread.

Have a lovely evening

Hi all!
Sorry I haven't posted, I've been trying to stay caught up on reading though.
I needed to get a quilt quilted fast for a family member that was giving a quilt to her granddaughter today for her 5th birthday I think it was. So I put everything down and got that out as fast as possible, I finished it yesterday. I hope she had time for the label and binding to give it to her 🤞
Today was a bath and haircut for Rosie, her last haircut was December 24th, Duncan will get his tomorrow. He's had a little trim about 3 or 4 weeks ago but my clippers just wouldn't do the job so I bought new clippers, they worked great on Rosie but still took me 4 hours for bath, blow dry and brush and comb out for totally no tangles and then the haircut. Jazmyne helped and Frankie cleaned up everything after, it exhausted me and Rosie LOL
We're tying a new to us frozen lasagna, it's a Marie Calendar one and Frankie made a salad.
We're expecting a bad dirt blowing day again tomorrow. So Monday we'll be doing a big clean, then hopefully back to painting and sewing.

Tonight's dinner was Turkey chili with beans.

Maryz - Wish you would have shared more of the rain. We have lots of wind now and rather nippy 57 degrees. You are really making great progress on the North Star quilt. You also have gotten Bill to finish your stack of quilts waiting to be quilted.

Lori - Yes, Mary needs to share more of the rain instead of sending only the wind and cold!

Tina - Glad you finished the quilt for the five-year-old. You didn't have to bind and label it either! Good for you! The dog washing project sounds like a lot of work, you must be very thankful for the dog washing sink you set up.

While my Sweet Sixteen is at the spa I am working on cutting out a quilt. Each year a gift is given to the President. Last year the members of the guild gave me fat quarters. I requested green. This year they are to give me a block. I decided to cut the fabric for the blocks using the greens (and a white) to make autograph blocks. I forgot that Eleanor's pattern makes a block that measures about 9-1/2 inches (Still Stripping Book). I only want a 6-inch finished block, so I redrafted. Members of the guild will sew the blocks. I have made the outside pieces oversized, so it is foolproof. I think this is going to be a very pretty quilt and a great memory of all the people in the guild. I will have to put it together when they give me the blocks in June.

Carol - just saw this post about autograph blocks. Hint - Iron a piece of freezer paper to the back of the area to be signed- it makes the pen move easier. I used a Micron Pigma pen when I did one years ago. The pen has different tip sizes.
