SUPPER CLUB - Wednesday, Feb 23

Post by purrfect-lady » Wed Feb 23, 2022 6:37 am

Good morning,

Brrr. ..... 25* here this morning, though not quite as low as was predicted. For the next 4 days we'll be mid 20's for lows and up to low 40's for our highs. But I see a 51* day coming next week!

My derm appt went well - I guess. No fungal infx so I don't have to take the anti-fungal med for four months. That's good because that stuff is hard on the liver, so no happy hour wine with that which would have been sad. But I do have hand eczema, which, I understand, is probably here for life but I can control the flare-ups with topical creams. 3 Rx creams and one more that I got fromt the dr office (which has already helped). And I'm to keep my hands out of water and away from soaps, especially alcohol-based products. Hello?? Pandemic here! Oh well. Maybe gloves will become my best friends. Today I'll be going around to pick up my Rx's - at two different pharmacies. One had to go to a compounding pharmacy - $61 and not covered by insurance. Ouch!

I did get the things I needed for Autumn's wedding garter, though I will wait a while to do that until my hands smooth out. Right now if I tried to handle satin and lace, it would be a snagged and bloody mess.

BECCA - I forgot to tell you that the one book by Miranda James that is set in Ashville, where you were yesterday, is entitled "Cat Me if You Can". All the others in that series are set mostly in MS. So speaking of Nashville, did you have to go all that way by yourself or did someone go with you? What was the treatment they did on your knee and do you think it will help?

JANA - Costco! We have a love/hate relationship with them. Their marketing people are SMART! Once we got out for under $100 and high-fived each other. And at our house, we are the same as at your house. Bill is an instruction reader. I'm the one who just jumps in, and if it doesn't work, THEN I might scan the instructions. But more likely call, "Biiiilllll !!.."

CAROL - that RWB quilt sounds purrfect for a summer picnic! A sample block is always a good idea! Usually, I'm good, but once or twice, I've found an error in my cutting. But after cutting up an entire quilt once - wrong - I learned a very expensive lesson. And actually I don't owe the other grandson a quilt. He got his 3 years ago - a queen orange bargello. (his favorite color) The picture is on the forum someplace. I gave it to him for his 21st july birthday, 2018. But if he asked for something special like Drew did, I'd drop everything else to get to it. And I told him so. I am planning to make each of them a new Christmas quilt, but want to learn just what they like best, Christmas-wise - snowmen? Santas? Desserts? Trees? So a little detective work needs to be done.

VELDA - I saw your air fryer did a good job. We need to check out the brand/model you bought. Sounds like it worked well for you. Was your chicken whole?

LORI - Sorry you found you didn't cut enough fabric. But better than cutting way too much, like I've done before. You are quick to sew up those log cabins! They always take me a long time. I kind of go into a zen mode and just plug along - sew, iron, trim, repeat. Each log. lol! So good to hear you got a lot of great info from your class.

MARY ROSE - I just use cereal boxes for my templates. Or old flexible veggie cutting mats. (I never throw those out. I use them for tote bottoms, too.) They work just as well as purchased template plastic. And with the cutting mats, the rough surface from all the knife cuts helps to keep it from sliding around on fabric. I never put my photos on the computer. I post straight from my phone using photoimg. One thing about photos that some of us have trouble with is size. My hubby, my electronic guru, finally told me to size them to 480x640, the correct size for forums.

For supper tonite, I have a plan even before I got to this last paragraph! Yay, me! I'm going to put some chicken breasts into the crockpot (after browning them first) with potatoes and carrots and onion, just like a pot roast. Now I can't wait for supper-time!

What are you planning?

Good Morning!
It is rather chilly here too Mary. It is 47* and windy. We had a little rain in the last 48 hours, but only a smattering. Please send us some rain!

MaryZ - I sympathize I too have had the cracked and bleeding on my hands. I never use hand sanitizer unless forced to at a Doctor's appointment. My doctor did suggest Cera-Ve cream which really helps. He also gave me a prescription.

Vel - My question about the air fryer was how was the clean-up? Ours said it was "easy" and we find it difficult. We like the flavor it gives food though.

Jana - Congratulations again to Aaron! It is wonderful his whole family will be there to support him. Good thing you are going so you can watch over the girls.

I have made progress on the quilting of the RWB. I learned something yesterday about cleaning the bobbin area of the machine. I need to use the hand wheel and rotate so I can get all of the lint out of the bobbin area. I was getting skipped stitches and found oiling machine really worked. (I went through at least six needle changes before realizing this, because I know most of the time skipped stitches are caused by the needle.) Today is a Zoom sew-in so I probably will work on the project from the class last week too.

Tonight, will be grilled chicken. (Maybe I will use the air fryer??) I need to put the marinade on the chicken.

Carol

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions of types of materials to use for templates. I usually have something to recycle into my templates, but this time I literally had nothing that would work.

Everyone's dinners sound scrumptious. Here we will have leftovers from yesterday.

Mary, my log cabin is cut with Accuquilt, so no trimming. Pieces are exactly the correct size. I sewed them chain piecing. It went really fast. I'll do the same with the rest once my class is over.

I need to vacuum and dust a bit. Then work on my homework. I completely changed on what I'm going with. We'll see how it goes.

Dinner will be chicken soup and corn bread.

Have a lovely day.

Good morning! for a couple of more minutes!

There are days that I should not be let out to do anything! Yesterday was one of those. I made a couple of mistakes that need ripping out on my paper piecing. Then I went to cook dinner - turned the oven on - it beeps at me when it is at the set temp - well, I heard the beep, stuck the loaf of bread in the oven and set the timer. Didn't pay attention to the temp - it was only 275! Uggh - the bread didn't work out and I thought that my oven was broken. So all night long during sleep, i kept fussing over how to get it fixed. No way am I giving up this stove! So when Michael got up, I had him go check and set the oven and turn it on - poof - it heated up to the right temp, and he played with adjusting it, they all worked fine- no broken oven! Yippee! it was operator foul up! Then Aaron needs his pants shortened - so I know from the past, he has about a 30 inch inseam - I pin up the hems with him wearing them last night - came down to the Batt Cave this morning and measured - it turns out to be 28 - so I cut off the length, leaving me plenty of extra, just in case I didn't measure right and basted the hem in place and called Aaron to come over and try them on, just to be sure they are not too short. He will be here in a bit. I hope I am OK and can just do the hand stitching and be done!

Dinner - we are having an Irish's type of dinner - the horse(car) knows the way to bring something home. Dinner time around here is right when the city council meeting is, so I won't cook. And with my luck these days, it would be burnt offerings!

I got my mistakes ripped out and pinned back to correct dimensions. I will have to hand sew these together as they are right in the middle of the strip of paper piecing. It is only a couple of inches, so not to bad.

We got quite a bit of new snow in the last two days. Snowed all last night and looks very pretty outside. Enough that the snowplows will be out doing the streets here sometime today. Because we live on a court and not any main street, we get done last.

Found just the right fabrics from my stash for my Easter rabbit skinnie. But first, there is always a but, need to finish these ding dang pants!

Mary - you asked what odd things we have in our sewing rooms. I must be the traditionalist - so far I can't think of anything that I have that would be used for something other than sewing. Unless you call a model railroad that other thing. At one time Michael wanted to run the trains through the middle of the sewing area - ahhh - NO! He changed the layout to not go through here.

Well, I hear the front door unlocking - Aaron is here,

Hugs,
Jana
